I'm gonna wait on pricing to decide how ugly it really is

Then, I suppose this thing has to have a rear LCD panel, and it works like a constant LV mode that you can turn on and off.

I'm going with the ugly vote as well. When I first saw the picture I thought it looked more like a toy. I guess we'll see. Maybe in real life it won't be as bad.

I think it looks excellent.

The hot shoe gives me hope there might be an EVF accessory.

What is a bit puzzling are the hints a while back about it being "like nothing youve seen before". Well none of the tech is new, and the design is retro like...... so what's the amazing "new" thing about this camera?

I really really hope they've cracked the contrast AF speed problem like Olympus have with their EP3.

My ME super begs to differ but in a world with the NEX-7 I do see your point.

The dial with the pipe under it sort of connects it with the Q model. Hm...

I am liking the looks more and more. It's growing on me. Not being of retirement age, I am actually glad they didn't go 1962 retro style range finder on this. That does nothing for me except make me feel like am buying old electronics, like a cell phone from 1989. I think cameras can evolve and be different in style than what they've been.

If Apple made a camera, I could see it being something like this, in white of course.

That's fine, and maybe Pentax will sell a lot of these cameras to such users but I am highly skeptical.

The K-01 seems to be aimed more at DSLR users and enthusiasts who want a more compact camera. I don't think they will sell beans to such a crowd, which is sad as it would be nice for this camera to succeed.

As I noted in another thread the fuji x100 is a runaway hit due larger to the hybrid viewfinder. Other aspects of the camera probably help it sell, but the viewfinder is tops.
As posted on other threads, my wife wants this to replace her A40 (I don't know why. She never prints anything). And she wants to use some of my lenses (uh oh) but not on a dSLR wtih a grip. She's perfectly happy with arms' length composing and focusing.

Well, it actually looks a lot better than I was expecting. After seeing some of the crap on the designers page I am rather surprised it looks as good as it does. Don't get me wrong. It is still pretty ugly, but it could have been a hell of a lot worse.

to have it as an effective K-r replacement without a viewfinder would be stupid. its basically a jumped up p&s without a vf

Sweet! We made it all the way to Page 5 this time before busting out a full on K mount hate. I'm glad to see the usual Pentax K mount hate is still in abundance.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, I'm hoping to hear this is weather sealed so that I can buy one. You know, one that goes with the glass I have no interest in replacing.
K-mount belongs where it belongs: K-mount SLR's. Was interested in how this might look but it looks just as large and bulky as what I have now and it doesn't leverage the most obvious advantage of getting rid of the mirrorbox and optical viewfinder. There's still an empty space in the middle where the mirror is and there's still half of a hump where the pentaprism is! Unbelievable.
