+1 to that. It's been 5 months already, and nothing new on it.

They should have had it ready for the Olympics, which is going to see a massive gathering of big white lenses. Would have been cool to see one or two Pentax logos in there.

That's an interesting idea. Maybe that's where it's going to make its big debut, along with either the K-30 or a new K Mount body? Give a bunch of them to a few accredited press photogs along with the necessary support, and see how they perform. IF they perform well, it might make a big splash...

arnt going to happen i doubt that anybody things so far in the marketing department.
Most likely the Lens itself is still in development and this "prototype" was just a dummy.

Would you like to wait longer for this lens if they have to invent a complete new AF-system or do you want to get i fast if they use the SDM (lol) AF-

I don't think that a accreditet photographer would spend a lot of time with such a combo. Pictures made at the olympics are expensive so you need to be shure that you get paid. For the pictures or for taking the pictures.

But they can still call me

Some information / rumors suggest that one specimen should be in field test in Africa this month. Probably, one should not expect any groundbreaking news before Photokina.

I'm afraid Pentax are in no position to go for Olympics; a complete system overhaul would be needed - not just one lens. And professional on site support. And lots of money. But it would be cool, with that I wholeheartedly agree

Photokina seems like a good target.

Well, not completely true. If they take care for me for accreditation, a nice set of 645D (300mm/f4 and 600mm/f5.6) then I will make the time free for such a trip.

Well, if they'll give me the equipment and pay for the trip, I'll even shoot on the Moon...

Then I'd pack a UWA lens though, not the coming 560mm. It's landscapes only there.

The 560mm would be very useful for the earth shots

You might need a full frame Pentax to fit it all in frame!

You're right, you will need a FF to fit the Earth in frame with a 560mm lens, APS-C is too narrow. The Earth has an angular diameter of ~1.9 degrees seen from the Moon (roughly 4 times the diameter of the Moon as seen from Earth).

Vertical AOV for APS-C @ 560mm: 1.6 degrees
Vertical AOV for FF @ 560mm: 2.5 degrees

Another reason for Pentax to make a FF camera?

I'm wondering if they are having issues with AF at 5.6 in even moderate light on the K-5.
