i think the primary speculation was a collapsible lens for ease of transport.
or the magical combo: 560-800mm/f5.6-f8

I'm hoping for a twin focal length lens; 300mm f4 and 560mm f5.6. Otherwise, it will be the DA*300 and 1.4X TC for me. Where I live, f5.6 is too slow much of the time.

with DA* i might be interested but dont understand the use of a wildlife lens which is 1)quite slow und 2) non-sealed except 3) dirt cheap

Probably the announcement from Pentax:

Model name (tentative): smc PENTAX-DA 560mm F5.6
•Unifocal super-telephoto lens for use with K mount interchangeable-lens digital cameras
•Sharp, well-defined images — particularly with distant subjects — thanks to the adoption of optics used in astronomical telescopes
•Market launch scheduled for 2012

and this:
Looks like a huge collapsible hood ... why would it be a collapsible lens apparatus??

It's all pure speculation at this stage anyway.
We'll only find out for sure later this year ... Photokina 2012?

A Pentax sales rep was in our local shop while I was there.. I grilled him about any info on the 560 and/or possibility of a FF camera.. All he would give me was "We will start seeing more Ricoh influence and initiative coming to surface in this next year, now that they have pretty much cleaned up and dealt with anything HOYA related." but I did handle and play with a K-30 w/DA 17-70 wish I had my memory card handy (my D800 was in my truck) or I could have had a few shots from it!

The way that thing is setup, I don't see how it is only a collapsible hood.

Wow. But what exactly is going on with that lens? What's the point of all those segments?

The mystery deepens.

I think it was DA*300. NOT! It's 50-135mm

My guess is still 560/5.6 - 800mm/f8

a surprise extra would be 400mm/f5.6 as an extra. Not faster, since it isn't wide enough.

it's 50-135mm, since it doesn't have tripod color.

The one by the rear filter tray probably turns the rear filter.
