Well it's coming up on the 2 year anniversary of the 645D, so probably about the mid point in it's life cycle. if anything the d800 may hurry the sensor upgrade cycle for it, or conversely bring the price down a couple of grand
I imagine the next gen 645 is going to move into 60mp + 645FF territory it's the logical thing to make it fully distinct from the DSLR racket. Actually i think many would be happy to see it stay at 40 mp but go FF (56x42) and continue to lead the MF in the entry level class

Agreed on both, the FF upgrade and the 40mp, although I would not rule out that the opposite will be what happens: a 60mp upgrade that remains at 33x44.
But more importantly, the upgrade might bring down the price of the current 645D One can always hope.

or not.. Pentax would be wise to offer an upgrade path to existing owners who could then choose to send thier 645's in to Pentax for a VERY reasonable fee and get a newer sensor upgrade... this would give buyers confidence that thier investments were sound and encourage more people to buy into the system... One thing Canikon owner brag about is the pro support they get.. see what I'm getting at?

hmmmmm
6pm on the east coast of the NA
Oddball time for an announcement (until you convert it to japanese time - 7 am the next day a very viable time for a CP+ launch announcement)

Yes Yes Yes.

Although I love the idea, I probably wouldn't do it, because I just don't see a good reason to, in that I am perfectly content with its sensor's capability, as is. I mean what more and how much more would I want and need?

None for me.

Having said that, there is one good reason I would part from it is if they went mirrorless with EVF (or OVF, provided that it is much smaller).
