The new pancake for the K01 looks like a faster 40mm. This distance scale matches that of the 40, not the 70 or 21. The big front element suggests a wider aperture. I hope I'm wrong, how many 40's does any APS-C system need?

Could it be a fish eye for the skater video crowd?

That 50 1.8 is very exciting news for us young 'uns. I sure hope it performs just as well as the 35 2.4~!

Doesn't seem like the K-01 is a one-off or a replacement. Seems more like a new line of cameras.
Yea, this is what has me excited! Someday they will make my perfect travel camera.

With XS lenses and a new K camera with a viewfinder, Pentax could really make a massive dent in the market!

edit: on second thought, they could totally smash the market! you would have Sony mirrorless cameras, small body and massive lenses, then Pentax, larger body with sweet pancakes. I guess Fuji would fall somewhere in the middle..

Go Pentax go!

Suddenly, having all this news from Pentax is terrifying. I'm not used to it. Someone, hold me.

Why? This new lens isn't a deal breaker on your current DSLR surely?
No not a deal breaker but I've been waiting for a fast wide prime. With the DA12-24 I can't justify the DA15 or 22 but this could be just what I want.

I wonder if they slightly restricted the aperture of the old FA50/1.7, just like they did with the FA35/2 > DA35/2.4. I reckon it will be cheap as well, probably plastic mount.
My thoughts exactly. Not a bad thing either as my 50/1.7 is sharper than my 50/1.4. A very nice lens indeed.

DPReview site is crashing on my browser. The OMD was also just announced.

Canon and Nikon sure are in a real tight place right now with Pentax, Fuji and even Oly getting more attention than they used to, lol.

The Mayans were wrong. Pentax is just warming up, can't be the end of the world by December! haha

Now would be the time for Pentax USA to order a few logo items like hats and other swag. Now if that happened then I would be worried.

No, because DPReview says that Pentax is telling them that:
"many of which [talking about the lenses announced] the company says will be available before the end of the year."

Their announcement of the Olympus OM-D sounds familiar, wish I could put my finger on what it reminds me of.....
"the E-M5 offers twin control dials, a magnesium alloy body, weather sealing, in-body image stabilization"

Don't get too excited by the 560 yet.... it might be a mirror lens
I have a 500mm f6.3 mirror lens, and I've never seen a mirror lens with a focal length of 500mm and an aperture of f5.6, let alone 560mm. Just because they mention a connection with astronomical optics, it doesn't necessarily mean a mirror. I'd be really surprised if Pentax released a fixed aperture f5.6 AF mirror lens, although if they did, it would resolve my biggest issue with the lens I already have - focus. When my mirror lens is sharp, it's fabulous, but it's almost impossible to get perfect focus manually other than in really bright conditions and preferably with a subject that is stationary.

All I see in the 560mm picture link is a Canon L lens

Are we going back to a F* colour scheme??
LOL! Not quite. There's no fancy little red lines.

The F's looked a lot more solid. (edit) solid wasn't the right word. 'less boring' would be more accurate.

On the other hand, I now know I was wrong in predicting this would be a DA*.....oh well.

Ok, who's going to mount the Pentax DA 560mm on the K mount adapter for Q. Should be an interesting animal.

I'm not use to all these announcements from Pentax.
