I wouldn't be surprised that they come out with the first MF camera with DSLR functionality. ie K5 in MF. That would definitely warp the playing field.
What are you talking about?
The 645D is the MF K-5.
And if you mean live view, video or a more compact body, then this just needs a new sensor (which Pentax cannot make themselves) or a new mount, something which Leica already did in their S2 (which then would be first btw, not Pentax).

The point is that it is isn't a good goal to win a market (Sub-FF dSLRs) which is going to disappear (Olympus, Sony, Samsung and Panasonic already withdrew from the market). And Canikon will follow once they established their mirrorless roadmap and can fork their system camera business into mirrorless and FF.

Why would those companies do that to themselves?! Somebody has to keep making real camera's.

IMHO, they will not actively push for it. We'll see how the market will evolve. I can be wrong. But this is how I expect it to evolve.

Well, the only company that is keeping making real cameras (i.e.rangefinder) is Leica. All the others company switched to reflex in the sixties...

In other words, all the good things must die and be replaced by consumer junk
I hope you are wrong.

eurostar, real cameras are view cameras, not rangefinders! TLRs are nice, too

You are right!

I went for many years asking why Pentax didn't produce a view camera and large format lenses for the cost of a P30 and a pair of 4-5,6 zoom...

Yes, but nobody's making an 8x10 digital sensor, AFAIK.

35mm sensor is just a toy.

/sarcasm off?

A real camera is made of wood, by the way.
Nobody? Mitchell Feinberg’s 8×10 Digital Capture Back

and 10 MP for only the cost of a good size house.and people wonder why pentax doesn't just get a custom fab sensor this might be part of the reason

DA 50mm f1.8

I hope Pentax fits the pricing in the range of the Nikon and Canon offerings, $125.
They should have the development costs mostly retired by now. Using the DA 35 2.4 with the 50 1.8 or 1.7 optics.

This lens could open the prime lens door to the Zoombies and boost K-01 sales.

3 50's then... DA* 50 f1.4, FA 50 f.14 and DA 50 f1.8

Some may say that's a bit too many 50's there... the main difference between the DA* and the FA in features are SDM and weather-sealing only? Does Canon have a 50 L?

The DA* is a 55 not a 50. The 50 1.8 is a totally new optical design.

I think Pentax will have a bit higher price than Nikon/Canon 50/1.8.

Ah yes, thanks for reminding me there, I forgot it's a 55 (though not really much of a difference there in FL). If the 50 1.8 is a totally new design, then wouldn't that push costs up? Or is it not feasible to just import the FA 50 1.7 design into a DA/DA L lens body?
