That 560mm is looking kind of beefy. And why such a weird number? Also, I really wish it was f/4, in which case, I would also allow for said beefiness.

I have a 600f4 and never use it wide open; depth of field is simply too thin; most of the time I use it at f7.1 or f8; so a f5.6 lens is perfect; the 600 f4 is simply too heavy

It would be sweet if they used the colour scheme from the Pentax retractor telescopes for that DA 560: Pentax Eyepieces and Telescopes

Any news on if the 560 is ED or not? I guess it's a critical feature for such a long IF lens....

Well I think of it, as being the wished for 400mm F4 and 1.4xTC already welded together

Good news all the same. How much smaller can a 560mm lens be? It's not a bad challenge to the existing 500mm lenses. The fast fifty looks like a good idea also. Welcome news.

This lens is designed for the APS-C sensor format.
From the Lens Review page for the new 560mm f5.6.

Not looking too promising for the much hoped for full frame.

It does appear to have built in controls that the generic doesn't but I don't believe we have the specs yet to know. Have they been released?

... so is that what one calls "embracing their weaknesses"? ... i.e. if you have terrible subject focus isolation, go completely the other way.

I want full frame, too, but really if you want a full frame camera you should buy one from a company that already makes one. If you keep waiting for Pentax to do it you'll be bound to be disappointed when you could have what you want right now. Maybe Pentax will come out with FF eventually but I'm not holding my breath.

This said, I don't know what a 560 mm f/5.6 being APS-C has anything to do with the prospects of full frame. I imagine it is APS-C to keep its size and price down.

So long as the 560mm gets a "beep" button like the Sony tele I'll be happy

I'd be willing to bet that this is standard boilerplate for the new lenses.

How about also "The DA 560mm is based on optics used in astronomical telescopes."

Maybe they're going to avoid the additional optical overhead of a non inverted image by leaving it to an EVF to right the image! So designed for APS-C Mirrorless.

I don't like that it doesn't appear to have its own strap lugs.
