Actually, I could see it more likely going in the other direction and being something like an 85/2.8, similar in size/price/spec to the Sony 85/2.8 (SAL-85F28).
Pentax already has the DA70/2.4, the DA77/1.8 and the DFA Macro 100/2.8 (and the excellent 50-135/2.8 too!) i.e. quite a few lenses in the approximate same range already!

If they release an FF camera, an 85/1.4 would be the most useful addition to that crowded field, IMHO.

I 100% agree with what you wrote in terms of an 85/1.4 being a more useful addition to that crowded field.

I was just saying that something like the 85/2.8, made in the style of the 35/2.4 and 50/1.8, is probably more likely to be released than an 85/1.4 at this point.

Remember, when the 35/2.4 came out, there was still a 31/1.8, 35/2.8 macro and the 35/2 had just been discontinued (I think). So it's certainly reasonable to think that Pentax would released an inexpensive lens like an 85/2.8 despite having the more expensive 70/2.4 and even more expensive 77/1.8.

Just a thought...

Ah, an inexpensive plastic-mount 85mm may indeed make some sense, yes. Or maybe the rebirth of the 135/3.5 if they're going completely retro :-)

Sony 85/2.8 is good lens. Plastic and cheap, but good optically

Have we seen any lens diagram for the 50/1.8 yet?
I'm thinking that it may be based on the old 50/1.4 or 50/1.7 in the same way as the 35/2.4 is based on the FA35/2 lens design. They just slow them down a bit and give them plastic mounts to give inexpensive primes to the people.

DA-L 85/2, DA-L 135/3.5 would be nice, though /3.5 is a bit slow IMO.

85/1.4, 135/1.8, 200/4 macro would be a very good message, indeed.

Almost a given IMO

This seems to be an urban myth, unless Nikon & Sigma have got it all wrong

I would hope that it is based on the 1.4, but with 6 blades instead of 8. It would make no sense to base it on the 1.7 and then make it a 1.8.

Even if black lenses don't actually get misaligned in the sun (I believe they could!), they will be much hotter to handle (not joking ).

For sure they would be hotter ! However I'm also sure Nikon/Sigma considered that a black finish may negatively affect the optical qualities of their lenses. If they still went with black then obviously there is no visibile image degradation.
