With all the lense experts in this thread I hoped to find a mention of the missing da16-45/4 from the new K-mount Roadmap. Sorry if its been discussed (I searched) or I am blind but just wondering if this lense was quietly dropped from production.

Yikes, so I'm not only blind but out-of-date also.

Thanks for bringing me into 2012!

In that case I am glad the DA16-45 was my first purchased lense so I dont have to buy a lower graded and more expensive item instead. I am saying the 17-70 is bad as I have never used one but am sure its not the bang for the buck the 16-45 is just for 20mm landscape shots. Yes, I need a da21 someday...

The Tamron 17-50/2.8 is about the same price, and faster.

The image quality appeas to be the same across the range they share (16-45 & 17-70) but indeed the 17-70 is quite a bit more expensive.

Maybe they can bring back the DA16-45 as a higher-end kit lens?

Doubt they will but that lens was my kit when I started with a k20d and I was much happier with it than the real kit I tried later. The 16-45 is too short these days to sell as a kit to most beginners I believe.

Thats why i added higer-end, it might go well with a K5 like camera if the lens was also weater sealed.
But now they have the 18-135 as well and more zoom lenses in the normal range are coming so i think it's really over for the 16-45.

I have owned both, and the 17-70 was better focal per focal and aperture per aperture. But seeing the variability of quality from one specimen to another of the same model of lens, it means nothing. Just that one have to be lucky in his purchase.
