It's always a Double Gauss design, so you won't get any info out of that

Have to agree it's an almost perfect length for me. Ideal travel lens 90% of my shooting is in that range (well 14 rather than 16 since that is what i have)
+1

Except that I have begun to rethink my travel photo gear strategy, largely based on the K-01 and the new Olympus.

my current travel strategy has eliminated zooms (I don't own a 16-50 and for that money i would buy an FA31 myself)
i carry a 14/24/50/100 kit now for travel. my 24-75 stays home because even tough it's a great range it's too heavy and means i need to use the grip)

I think a K-01 with 21-40-70 may be the travel kit i work towards - and a uwa if they launch a retro-focus pancake (unless they drop a higher end MILC later this year with EVF and FF then i may have to rethink that )

That's exactly the problem :-D What a positive problem to have! But I must say that the new Olympus micro 4/3 is also mightily enticing. Likely I will stick with Pentax though.

The 16-50 covers 75% of my photography. That extra reach will cover another 15%. If it were just a bit wider (15mm or even 14mm) would be amazing.

But it must be 2.8. I also have the 16-45 f4, but its just not fast enough.

Mainly the oly appeals to me on a nostalgia level the performanc will be decent i'm sure but i'm guessing the K-01 will crush it's performance in many areas (without some of the conveniences like tilt screen and evf - still no prefect camera is there - never will be otherwise you'd never upgrade :SD)
I think a FF MILC based on an LX (with OLED top screen and a couple of VF tubes WL sport and standard prism would kill - and remove the need for tilt screen just have a larger rear screen) would nmeet many peoples needs

Forget the lenses, look at THIS!

Now THAT is something I'd buy
Loewe?? In that setup, the case will be the most expensive item in the package, by a very comfortable margin.

But what the H' is the K-01 lens mock up at the show? Sure isn't on that Roadmap. Did they forget they were developing it, or are the re-hires coming back with lenses they were working on at home?
The secret pentax weapon is new secret line of lenses - XS...No roadmap, but there is mock-up.

My thoughts as well.

K-5 will now keep its grip and be used for outside/wet work with the 16-50 left on all the time. Unless the 300 goes on.

K-01 will be picked up when the price settles and used for travelling with the DA limiteds.

Unless it is a beach holiday in which case water proof camera may be a plus. Oh, decisions.

What about an hybrid tele lens with some shorter focal base lens, and then an additional element to encrease the focal length to 560mm.
This might be some really astonishing solution with two new lenses with only a cheap additional element to make one lens to two.
Sorry, I might be stupid, but this came in my mind after looking at the photos.

everything (with the exception of the Q and 645 lenses) are DA as announced. however the point was also made that the roadmap is subject too change so it's possible one or 2 of the roadmap lenses are DFA in disguise if they have a FF up their sleeves but don't want the info getting out until they are ready to launch
