Yay!

My dream is that they come up with a hybrid SLR that turns the OVF into an EVF when the mirror is up - would be extremely nice for video - but also maybe when using manual lenses, or for working with constant mirror-up on a tripod.
This could be done using technology similar to that in the Fujifilm X100, but this would make the viewfinder assembly larger - perhaps about the size of a full-frame viewfinder on an APS-C body. That said, the technology required to create an hybrid SLR viewfinder already exists.

I really expect a hybrid viewfinder in the next "flagship" model. Either using the Pentax patent, the Fuji technology or the Samsung translucent oled.

If they really don't want to make a 24x36, how about this plan?

Make the existing 645D crop sensor (44x33) camera available for the price of a D800.
Provide a rock solid 645 to K-mount adapter with electrical contacts and screw-drive.
For current 645D users, develop a "full 645" (56 x 41.5) format camera with medium format pricing.
For current 645D owners, offer coupons for early adopters to compensate for the price drop.

Instead of buying new FF lenses, you buy new 645D lenses. You also have backward compatibility and full frame coverage with existing FF lenses. It could be done this year.

The above compromise is unique. It gives you better IQ with MF lenses if you want it. Better than the D800.

If you think dropping the 645D price by that much is impossible, look what just happened with the Sigma SD1.

Mmm in theory (or is this fantasy) why not ? But if an FF sensor is too expensive, what about an MF Cmos sensor ?
As for WA lens price, look at the DFA645 25/4.

I don't think prices are set randomly. The Sigma was unsellable. The Pentax 645D is not. Besides, I belive the sensor alone in the 645D cost $3000.

Come on Adam, this must be the most painstakingly translated piece of text ever! By the time it's up they'll have announced their FF cam already! How about a few choice nuggets from the interview to tide us over?

(Anyone would think you were deliberately drawing this out to keep people checking the site ;P)

[LOL] Holy cow, it can't take THAT long!!

Seriously though, considering (1) that the interview is in Japanese, and (2) that the video will be far too large a file to download over a dialup connection, the video will probably be a waste of time for 99% of the folks here on Pentax Forums.

Better to not post it at all than to post it with inaccurate translations, right? Sit tight, it'll be up on monday!

BTW, who's actually translating it? Not everybody speaks Japanese.

EDIT: And who did the interview?

True. Imagine the people commiting suicide because Pentax says FF won't come due to bad translation.
Or the opposite

Either way... Better to have an accurate translation indeed. Thanks again, Adam.

Yes we must make sure Pentax's evasive and non-commital answers are perfectly translated!

Whatever they have said, mountains are sure to be made out of molehills in the forum discussion... look at all the fuss which resulted from the mere change of description of the DA50/1.8! Whatever Pentax have said or not said, we will make our own minds up about what they actually mean....

If you look at the specs, it's possibly way overpriced by the previous owners.
There are not many elements compared to a modern zoom. It's an easy candidate for a price reduction possibly by 50% or more.
