A mini 645D would definitely meet the unique FF concept though
The question would be if a 60MP 645DmkII at $10,000 with the 645D going down to $5,000 could make Pentax MF rival the $3,000/$3,500 FF offers from Canikon?

I agree across the board with your reply i was just pointing out it does not have to be Sony, and if the die process was covered sony would make any sensor for you that you want, but it might not be cheap. If it is unique though it may justify it's cost in the market
Personally i think deviating from the 35mm ff standard would be a mistake
If Hassy decides to do a square sensor that is another story altogether because they can get the $ for it
Samsung apparently did prototype a square sensor

I say Sony will make next 645D sensor which will be a 80MP FF 645 sensor.
Rest is BS

so far the only FF 645 is dalsa AFAIK and it's ccd
a full on cmos 645 with all the options that adds would be amazing (no way 645D mk2 is an 80mp cmos and holds the 10 grand price though
maybe by mk3

Of course, it's definitely a good camera (I wouldn't mind owning it!). But really, the MkIII is the camera the MkII should have been. I think current MkII shooters don't have a compelling reason to upgrade to the MkIII.
They do, and it's the AF.

There is a lot of folks that own 5D2 and 7D for the AF.
Now that 5D3 adds better AF than the the 2005 thing originating in 5D1, a lot of Canon shooters are contemplating....

Well the good news. Will be the D800 & glass I'll be getting I could sell for a Pentax FF and a some decent glass.. But chances are the D800 will only be worth $1000 by the time Pentax brings one to market in 2016 or so.

According to some DPR posting, B&H currently has a pile of 4800 preorders for the D800.

That's worth (revenue) 2 months of production of K-5, just in preorders from one shop before even a test appeared ...

I don't know how big a company B&H is. But if I should draw a number, it would be 500 million $ revenue/y (using a 1000 people staff figure and 10% margin per sale). The global market imaging product market may be some 300-500 billion $, so, say the B&H market share is some 0.1-0.3%.

But let's hope this to be false speculation. As otherwise, Nikon would need 5 years to fulfill preorders

Well that is the first rush, bot who wants his camera before the Olympics and is not member of a press agency may have to wait.

Actually I hadn't thought of that. with the Olympics this year and new cams from canon and Nikon I imagine a lot of journos have in pre orders. but more likely for that crowd it's D4 and 1Dx not the D800 and 5D3 (at least for the guys directly covering the sports events)
For general journos covering outside the venues they may be D800 or 5D3 guys (and I wouldn't be surprised if the top guys were going with 1 of each)

Maybe within the studio landscape segment it could compete but can the FF 645 60mp sensor be sourced for a price that would allow the 10 grand price point ?

Yes, I actually do think that it just may contend... But I wonder myself too if a FF 645 sensor could be reasonably priced to keep the price for the 645II at 10k.

Probably not. But a 645D at 6-7000 and a 645D2 at 13-15000 would be nice too, or wouldn'it ?

Well my local shop has ordered one D800 in.. there are currently 3 people including myself interested in it.. so hopefully it will arrive close to launch date.. if not I'll wait and go to Alberta and save some sales tax, to put towards other glass etc..

It's not likely to be stocked heavily in any shop but the biggest busy pro shops.if one of the 3 of you buy it at the local shop his close rate is sitting at 33% not bad actually,

I'd prefer to buy locally, but Also saving about 7-8% in sales tax on a $3000 camera and probably $1500-$2000 of glass, batteries, CF & SD cards etc.. .. means a savings of a few hundred dollars, and well worth the gas money spent to go to visit some friends and family anyways.. I'll just have to make sure that I have one in stock and lined up before I drive 5 hours to get one!! Ahh well, all in time.. have a few weeks before they are actually released anyways.
