I don't know if there is co-expensing, interesting idea. I did check Amazon and was amazed by the number of Sigma lenses for Pentax that they have. They had the new 120-300 f2.8 you mentioned as well as the 500mm f2.8 prime. Lots of fish eyes and rect. UWA. And tele zooms. And a 17-35 f2.8 zoom that had good ratings.
For Pentax? Where?

this is one of the 3 splash proof (ie wr) lenses Sigma announced over a year ago for Pentax, the canikons are already out, glad they are finally getting the Pentax variant to market (I think the other 2 wr types are the newest 12-24 variant and a 150 macro if i am not mistaken)

Edit - the macro isn't WR according to BH site

the 12-24 for 950 with WR is damn tempting, an almost [perfect walk around for me

the only dealer it shows in stock from is Sunset electronics, when you go to sunset's web site it's not even lised (and they look like a dealer to avoid - a Brooklyn Address in the camera business sends up massive red flags (at best they are ordering it and shipping from Sigma sothe stock probably does not exist)

their address on the web site brings up this from google streetview- really on 36th (and scrolling around streetview i saw no sign of them though one building is blocked with a do not enter sign lol)

Apparently also known as Jersey Photo

3 very nasty reviews

you are right it's not read my post above, the shop listed as having stock is not any where near a reliable dealer to order from. BH has a notify when in stock option up now (once it is closer to shipping it will change to a pre-order option i would think) the canon and nikon versions have favourable reviews)

SLR Lenses

not shipping in Canada yet either BTW I checked - but i would guess it must finally be on the way or at least have production scheduled

Sorry guys, i didn't tunnel into the details on the Amazon suppliers, it does sound like a nasty situation to buy from. I've only bought some small items like dvds and books from amazon, i'm amazed that they would even keep a store like that on their staff - bet that company doesn't last long. A year ago, i bought my K5 from BH and they were great. even gave me a price reduction rebate after i bought it.

Haven't had time to read this whole thread, but if you want some evidence that THIS TIME it is more than just a pipe dream, check out the specs on NEW Sigma lenses for Pentax mount:

Was searching B&H and noticed that Sigma has some new lenses for
Pentax that B&H has listed as "New Item, Not Yet Available". Some have
pricing already set:

12-24mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG ASP HSM II Wide-Angle Zoom Lens (For Pentax)
120-300mm f/2.8 EX DG OS APO HSM AF Lens (For Pentax)
150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro Lens (For Pentax)
180mm f/2.8 APO Macro EX DG OS HSM Lens (for Pentax)

Not sure whether we want to read anything into this, but all but the
180mm say: "Designed for use with full frame digital SLR cameras".

I suspect that the 180mm macro is also made for full frame, though it doesn't say so. (A 180mm 1:1 macro with a 1.5x focal length multiplier doesn't make a great deal of sense to me.)

Link to NEW lenses (scroll down)

Gee. Think Sigma knows something that we don't?

The significant thing is Sigma is marketing new lenses in K-mount. Some other manufacturers haven't done so for a while.

whether a FF camera is coming or not, I like the news that the 120-300 is finally making it to the k mount !

I agree, this is good news. It seemed like for awhile there, that even Sigma was cutting back on Pentax mount lenses. But since Ricoh came out with a new Pentax lensmap and the K01, there seems to be this "sudden" stocking of new Sigma lenses w/Pentax mount at BH. There may not be too much cost involved in porting already designed lenses over to the K mount, but there is significant expense involved in manufacturing and stocking those same Sigma designs at stores such as BH, Amazon, and Adorama, etc. Sigma is obviously convinced that Pentax is here to stay.
Sorry to throw cold water on all of the wet dreams here, but Sigma is not introducing any of the lenses listed above in PK mount (i.e., the 12-24, 120-300, 150 Macro or 180 Macro) according to their own website. "Placeholder" listings at B&H do not mean anything. Sigma's website shows none of those lenses being offered in PK mount. Even the previous non-OS 120-300 f 2.8 was never made in PK mount - what would possibly possess Sigma to make an even more expensive version of the same lens in the mount that has less market share now then it did when the previous version was introduced?? Honestly, who would buy one at this point (at $3,200 B&H price, which is nothing more than the price set for the mounts Sigma will actually make) - the same cheapskates that insist they wouldn't pay $3,000 for a FF Pentax body?!

If K-mount is ever going to see lenses like the 120-300 f 2.8 made by third party lens makers again, Pentax will have to introduce a FF dSLR first, because such high-end lenses aren't going to be made for an also-ran "APS-C only" camera maker with dwindling market share - and Pentax market share will only go down if they continue their "bottom feeding" APS-C only stupidity.

It's not even mentioned on Sigma's website as being for Pentax so I won't believe any dealers who seem to have a very independent line here. It's possible they may just want to sit on your money for a year and make some interest off it, only to give it back because "Sigma changed their mind". The cost of that lens is such that you could justify buying another brand of camera if you desperately wanted it. Besides, it weighs in at 2.9kg, which makes it a real monster for walk-around shooting, and you'd have to be freaking sporty to deal with it anyway.

So now the question is.. when your forced to CaNikon FF camera.. do you get a 70-200 f2.8 or throw the extra at the 120-300 f2.8?

Well there is also Nikon 200-400mm/f4 lens, just a little more expensive.

I own the new Sigma 70-200mm/f2.8 EX DG OS HSM and I'm in for the larger Sigma 120-300mm. On the other hand I do sometimes think about a Nikon system, but I don't think I would buy the Sigma for a D3s or D4. It seems underwhelmed on those camera's.

Who would buy 120-300mm/f2.8 (I guess with matchting 1,4x TC)? People who do sports and soem nature. So there is a limited market for it. The lens was initial listed as coming in Pentax mount. Maybe Sigma will when the sales of that lens in Canon/Nikon mount will go down, since I have the idea that they can sell all production at the time.
