Now I have automatic updates turned off and when I am ready to do an update I always, always make a spare Clone of the prime HDD first. This way I can swap the cloned HDD back into the machine if anything has gone "KAPUTT". I use removable HDD trays for this to make it easy.
That's a nice way to do it in hardware. I run Win 7 (+ XP & Vista) in a virtual machine, so I have the same possibilities, but in software

Firmware isn't really an upgrade but more a replacement.
So instead of adding the new parts you actually replace everything that means you just need to download the llatest version.
That is what I thought.....But it is always nice to hear it from someone else. Thanks!!!

Windows is correct when it warns you about the software. After all its intended for a camera not a computer.

Not sure if you are joking or not, but they are def not the same. And there was a real SDXC compatibility issue that this update fixes.

If you don't use SDXC and have not experienced any problems then no need to upgrade to 1.13

Agreed... While both formats are identical in form factor and mechanics, SDXC uses a different file system, which is Microsoft's exFAT and is limited in backwards compatibility such as transfer rates.

I don't tend to use SDXC... at least not yet. But I figure it's good idea to keep the firmware up to date in my K-5 - and any camera - so I don't have to scramble in any given situation in the future. I finally got around to doing the update today. I downloaded the file to my iMac and then copied the file directly to the card inside the camera. It worked flawlessly.

Bonsoir,

Updated the K-5 and the K-r with no problems ... obviously with fully charged batteries. Also never any problems with the lens on nor with Window, etc.

Allez & salut, J Frog

Yep it's true.

PK_Tether 0.6.4 (latest) doesn't work with the K-X anymore after the 1.03 firmware upgrade. Going back to firmware 1.02 doesn't remedy the problem. However, using an older version of PK_Tether (0.4.5) still works with the K-X after the upgrade.

A benefit of using the latest PK_Tether (0.6.4) is to have access to the DEBUG mode, but unfortunately that's been disabled, in fact, the launching PK_Tether causes an error.

Had a bunch of AF lens that were helped from some FF/BF fine tuning and now that's not possible.

(Really angry gal)
I can't reproduce this problem on my K-r. Tethering works and I can access debug mode.

Alizee later retracted her problem report with v1.03 and the K-x (see above a few posts). Perhaps the pktether issues have also gone away.

It's possible that the firmware upgrade introduced incompatibilities in settings--for alizee, resetting the camera worked.

Nice one. Perceptibly faster and more accurate low light focus on a K-7 with 1.12.

Found the forum of french Chasseur d'Images where couple guys say the last firmware did cure a couple AF problems, in some cases sped up the AF and high ISO cleaner than before (Jpeg only I assume).

It also solved an exposure inaccuracy problem with K-7 (already fixed with K-5).
I'm surprised to such changes. Welcome, Ricoh !

I wish they would publish a full list of problems addressed. It's hard to know what's real and what's subjective (and confirmation bias) when they do it this way (only list improvements and the really big things). *sigh*
