K10D price increase at B & H

And it's not a little price increase either, $100. B & H was the first online seller that stopped selling the K100D when the super became available. This big a price jump could mean two different things.

1)There aren't going to be anymore K10D's and they are going to make extra money on the ones they have left.

2) B & H is probably one of Pentax's biggest customers and knows before most other people that the price is going up $100 from Pentax because of the K200D being introduced.

My bet is on #2. Regardless of what the reason is people that thought they were going to get a K10D for less money when the new cameras come out are going to be disappointed. If you are thinking about getting a K10D you better jump on it now from Beach, Buydig or Adorama decide to join B & H on the price increase.

Regards,

Ken

So glad I ordered mine before the holidays!

Well this lack of stock should cause them to rush the new cameras out the doors, hopefully with proper QC though.

Beach Increase K10D also

I got my K10D at Beach camera in December 2007, great price, but noticed right after January 1, 2008, price went up just under $40.00 for the Kit.

I assumed that after the holiday season prices might go down a little, not up. Glad I purchased in December.

Don't understand why the price would increase, but it does not make a lot of sense to me that the increase would be because of a new product yet to be released. Guess that is why I'm not in marketing.

Very limited stock in Canada and I bet this is the same problem in the USA. Hot product with low stock, raise the price.

I would agree. Good sellingproducts that are likely no longer in production. Need to make
existing inventories last until whenever the new things show up. Also don't want to make
the prices of the 'new' product look high, and one way to help with that is raise the price of the old product.

shouldn't the K10D even go lower now that everyone knows that new dslr is about to be release and everyone is holding out for it?

I have a second k10d on its way to me from Amazon that I ordered right after Christmas. I guess that was a good move? I wanted another body for shooting a wedding in June and I also have to send my first k10d in for service. I couldn't stand to be without it for weeks while in repair.

ps...woah! I just looked at the price listed for the k10d body only at b&h and it is almost $800.00?!? I paid $623.00 at Amazon a couple weeks ago. With the $100.00 rebate that will make my second k10d within $50.00 of HALF of what I paid for my first one in Nov 2006.

Demand for the K10D is still pretty high and now it seems supplies are now shrinking. The K10D is still a solid piece of hardware even if older, and people are glad to have it's capabilities with out the higher price tag that will come with it's replacement.

Those of us who trawl in forums know something's coming. Most others don't.

The price adjustment could also be due to the weakening US$.

The K10D is out of production (k100d super too). US dealers can't order them. Now there may be a "k10D something else" model come out but the K10D is history. Only ones left are the ones in the supply channel.
thanks

I didn't even realize until just now that it's actually selling for more than when I got it in May.

cameracanada.com states: Pentax has discontinued the K10D and stock is depleted!

They have been selling tons of these units and if this was not true they would not have said this. Plus they raised their price on both k10D and K100Dsuper. Pentax would shoot them if this was not true...
