I'd be very concerned with quality control. Having that many options mean that many opportunities to introduce a mistake.

No way. Pentax has never ever had any QI issues whatsoever. No way.

Would anyone be so kind enough as to upload the photos from photo rumors to here? For whatever reason I can't access their website (have tried two different networks).
Sure mate, can you see images hosted on imgur? If you can't I'll host them here temporarily.

Strictly speaking, whining about the whiners is whining too.

Maybe I'm way to positive, but the new K-01, the announced lenses in the roadmap, now another body, I all see these as teasers for something much bigger. I'm setting myself up to be dissapointed, aren't I?

If you are counting on the KR replacement to be your dream camera yep you are. the final year of Hoya seems to have left many people dancing in the streets if there is even a hint of an announcement lol, and then the announcement happens and it's not a FF dream camera for $1500 so they proceed to bash everything about the new model

Personally i think we may well get spoiled by the number of announcements that will hit by year end. Hopefully one of them is my next camera, but I'm in no rush

I'm in no rush either. My k-7 is still going strong and has plenty of clicks left. I think I'm going to wait till used k-5s get cheaper and just upgrade to that unless the new sensor is really spectacular. If it is 20mp, its probably diffraction limited past f5 anyways...so meh.

It makes me wonder what the maximum resolving power of aps is based upon light wavelengths. I'm guessing probably 30mp or so. What happens when they go over that and extra resolution is meaningless? FF does still have advantages here.....

Falk??

I seem to remember falk mentioning we may eventually see 100 mp apsc a while back (100 mp medium format will be the next sensor since the 80mp is already on the market)

I'm not sure where diffraction kicks in on apsc, but i think the 24mp sensor that is likely (the nex 7 already has it) is still quite capable

I made a chart about this for reddit, I think it can aply here too. I also think that given the data the diffraction limit for APS-C will kick in 1 stop before 135 format, and one stop after micro 4/3rds.

Diffraction Limited Photography: Pixel Size, Aperture and Airy Disks

This is a quick (rough) data dump from one of the calculators on the page linked to. Columns are:

1. f stop
2. optical resolution limit at that f stop in the micro 4/3rds format
3. " ... " 135 format..

Data:
f/x...4/3"..135
32....0.7...3
22....1.5...6
16....3.....12
11....6.....25
8.....12....50
5.6...25....100
4.....50....200
2.8...100...400
2.....200...800
1.4...400...1600 <-- 1.6 gigapixels!

For reference to film, the resolution of Fuji Velvia RVP is 80lp/mm, or ~22mp in 135 format. [Source]

So the 24mp sensor is sitting right at the diffraction limit for a lens at just over f8 then. Since most lenses also are at there best at f 8 or so we have hit the theoretical max for apsc with this release. m4/3 has also hit it's limit but FF has a way to go

for some lenses you may get an extra stop (f5.6) at their best but those are outnumbered by ones best at f8.. these will allow a 50mp sensor.

Of course improvements in lens design may well allow finer resolving

It's a pixel peeper thing though until you really hit heavy diffraction. Certainly one of the reasons landscape guys shot medium and large format was the ability to stop down significantly further than 35mm would allow without diffraction

that could still be announced at photokina (in fact it should really be announced in may )

Hmm, I actually think most quality Pentax lenses peak at f/5.6.

I quickly glanced through photozone.de tests of my most used lenses:

DA35 Ltd: Best at 5.6
DA70 Ltd: Best at 4-5.6
DA16-45: Best at 5.6, but very close to that at 4
DA55-300: Best at 8

(In addition, the FA31 and the DA35/2.5 peak at 4)
