I seriously doubt the K-r replacement will be a FF... that's just crazy talk.

I wasn't suggesting that

The K-r replacement can be just announced - that doesn't matter too much as it's not going to be a ground breaking camera for Pentax.

It seems odd that Pentax would release two DSLR's at photokina.

It also seems odd to release one, say a month or two before photokina, and then another one at photokina.

Etc.

The longer we wait without a k-r replacement, the less likely it seems that photokina will have a FF.

A heads-up to do what? Aren't Nikon and Canon enough busy competing with each other? Why they should care about Pentax FF?

p.s. I am not one of those waiting for (Pentax) FF. I'm not such a good photographer to benefit from a FF sensor.

Good point.

Skill doesn't matter. If you want it, then you want it. Personally, I don't care for paper-thin DOF. It would just mean I have to stop down more to get my subject totally in focus.

I think Nikon in particular watches Pentax more closely than we might realize. Their "1 series" cameras are small system cameras like the Q and they come in goofy colors like the Kr. I think the D800's 36 megapickles is an attempt to compete with medium format cameras, the 645D being the least expensive of those. I don't know if they would lose any sleep over a Pentax full frame, but they might change some pricing strategies to try and keep the competition out of the market.

I know, I was just being facetious since a thread titled "K-r successor from PhotoRumor" has become yet another FF thread. I'm just a newbie who's talent and budget don't need a FF but I am curious about the K-r & K5 replacement bodies so I skim the rumor threads from time to time. The path this one has taken gave me a chuckle... Pretty soon I expect to see a comment on someone's cat photo that reads, "Love it! Only critique is that you couldn't shoot it with a FF."

I was just thinking about the Pentax DSLRs currently in production. Its just hte K-5, right? (The K-01, Q, and other point and shoots dont qualify) Maybe Pentax will announce it will no longer make DSLRs

At CES the Product Manager announced they are absolutely committed to dSLR.

My take: (But I get flack for this now, whereas a month ago people were happy)
K5 - until December
K-r successor (unclear features - K-01 tech with a VF/EVF, not OVF) - May/June
K-5n - K-5 with articulating LCD, better video and Prime M image processor - June/July/August
K-3 - New Body - 24Mp sensor. Photokina.
LX-D (FF) announced Photokina - released 2q 2013 - maybe mirrorless, maybe interchangeable viewfinders - (in honor of the 2012 anniversary of the Asahifles, the first* Reflex camera)

That doesn't include Ricoh and lenses, Q, K-Zero platform or 645D.

This is an incredibly rich product menu.

That would be a very cool scenario.

You forgot the 645D, it's a DSLR.

I did. You are right. Its just a little out of my price range and therefore outside my conceptual world. By around 10000.

Well of course I'm not right, unless I'm incredibly lucky at guessing the meaning of hints and clues. Whatever portion of my supposition is true (I am firm on the K-5, K-5n and the K-3) I edited the original post to include "This is an incredibly rich product menu."

I really don't know why everyone is so down on Pentax Ricoh (except in the USA, where they can't seem to get out of their own way).

(Ducking now)
