maybe it could be KQ and they can save money on the sensor
What about the QuicK? And make it write to SD very fast and have the fastest autofocus ever.

Name of new models

The only modelname from the original K-series from 1975 that still isn't used, is K2. So lowprice cameraes will continue to use K+ a letter, like KZ. Top crop cameraes will be K3, and then K1. But when Pentax make a fullframe camera, maybe already to be presented at Photokina 2012, it will naturally be K2. Then they will continue to have K4, K6 av K8 on fulllframe cameraes.
K-01 means 0 for no mirror, logic! And it is a crop camera, which means that a fullframe mirrorless camera will be K-02! Why so confused? K2 is also one of the highest, and most difficult mountains to reach the top of, in Himalaya. That's why the former top model was called K2. It was a peak and solid as a rock!

why not KF-1 for a FF K-mount camera ?

then KF-10 for FF mid level
KF-100 for FF entry level
and KF-1 for FF pro with battery pack like the D4

Name of new models

If you look at the names of cameraes Pentax already has used i Europe and USA, they have used all of the filmcameraes from the 1970's, except K2! KX, K1000 (USA). Look at the design of the K in K-01 and it is for the first time precise the same font as the K-series from 1975. It is just to know the history, and be sure I'm right. I bought my first Pentax in 1977!

Confucius says “It is easy to guess if you know the answer.”

PS: K-z is definitely out of the question. This denotation was already discussed for a previous model. Pentax Germany informed Pentax Japan about the problematic name, which then was not used!

PPS: Names of two more recent non-crop prototype top SLRs: MZ-1 (film, LX successor, before MZ-S), K-1 (digital, alias MZ-D/MR-52/...)

Don't forget about the L-series postential.

Most of us have read this before - for those who recently speculated on K2, that was the top enthusiast camera, but also used somewhat professionally. The K2DMD (Data Motor Drive) was marketed as a pro model with numerous accessories for photojournalism, event/ceremonial and scientific use.

2012 is the 60th anniversary of the Asahiflex reflex camera. In honor of that anniversary Pentax could introduce their first Full Frame dSLR - the LX-D - since LX = 60 in Roman numerals (just as the film LX honored the 60th anniversary of Asahi Optical Co.).

BTW: K-B would be the German shortcut for "Kleinbild", i.e. the size of the 135 film frame ("The father of 35mm photography": Oskar Barnack).

lol yes, lxd does have a ring to it. Maybe this is what Pentax should do next - and add a psychedelic shooting mode where all the colours are rainbowy and random shapes show up where you don't expect them and people have huuuge eyes
