Today i picked up a rumor that we will see a new Pentax Camera in june - july. I was told that it would be priced 200 € below the K-5, but still have weather sealing. That sounded to me like a replacement for the long gone K200D. There was also a wage rumor about the K-5 beeing replaed in september. Unfortunatly i have no specs for eather, so your guess is as good as mine.
I wonder what this mid-level specs will be like compared to the K-5. I am betting it will be a lot like the K200d with the stuff from inside the K-5 including the 16mp sensor and the flagship will have the 24mp sensor. And the ff will have the D600 sensor . . . Hysterical

I guess for a quite boring update:

June-july. Basicly a cheaper K-5 with slower speeds and smaller pentamirror viewfinder and without top-LCD and less buttons. Video AF will problably work a lot better.

September: A new K-5 like model with sonys 24 Mp sensor, tuned to ISO from 50 uncalibraded and 80 calibrated and probably all the way to ISO 102400 (the ISO-race). Much better video AF. K-5 look with a few tweaks. Firmware trics and tweaks. Maby GPS and Wifi.

I dont think we get a full frame camera in 2012, but if we do, i guess its going to come at the end of the year and pushing prices in the full frame market, just like the 645D did in the medium format market.

A K-02 and a Q2 will probably come in early 2013.

Red = from sources in the photo industry
Black = my guesses

The part about a new K-5-based camera at 200 euro lower price and still weather sealed + a higher end K-5 replacement in september is not my guesswork. Its from sources within the photo industry. The rest is guesswork based on what i heard.

I cleared that with colors.

Well, all this fuss about the hyptothetical K-Z but noone yell at manufacturers often carefully avoiding using the number 4 in product.
In fact I was surprised to a Nikon D4.
Saw an LX4? Nope. See a 4th floor in Asia in buildings? No. See a rank number 4 in planes? often not. Still, nobody yells.
EH? What? I've worked extensively in China and have seen lots and lots of 4th floors.

I believe your rumour Simen1. The K200D replacement is long overdue, and the 16mp sensor makes all kinds of sense, single wheel, WR body and priced in between existing models.

September seems late for a K-5 replacement, but the competition hasn't upgraded either. The K-5 must still be selling well at the lower price.

John C stated earlier this year the K5 would stay in production until December. Doesn't mean there won't be a new APSc introduced side-by-side . . .

The 4th floor thing is mostly in Japan I believe. The Japanese character for the number 4 is the same as the character for death (Shi), therefore it is considered unlucky.

Do you have a link? I must have missed that statement.

No, the Japanese character for 4: 四 is not the same as death: 死 (these are the same characters as Chinese as well). However, one of the ways to read 4 is indeed "shi" which is the same pronunciation as death. In Chinese, the two characters are also pronounced very similar to each other "si" (different tones though), and disliked for the same reason.

When I lived in Hong Kong, my apartment high-rise not only lacked a 4th floor, it did not have a 13th or 14th floor either!

Its somewhere in the News and Rumors section from February, stated in an interview at CP+ or CES.

[EDIT:] Interview was with Jonathon Martin, the head of Pentax UK

I think the 5n and the k200 replacement seem the most plausible. Maybe seating the k200 replacement as a. K-r successor. Just a guess.

5n was neatly described as one Reply in a long thread. 16Mp, Prime M, 100% OVF, K-01 LV and video, articulating LCD.

I'd like to see the K-01's focus peaking on every Pentax DSLR and mirrorless camera from here on forwards. Its just a software thing, right, so there is practically no reason why it can't be added, right?

I agree. Big help for using manual lenses (which the brand is currently well-known for-- use of those old legacy glass)

btw, I'll vote for a K200D-like model to come as the K-r replacement, a cross between the two. I just wonder if it's possible to have a top LCD for a camera body the size of the K-r. So it's still a K-r with... some of the K200D's advantage points thrown in
