Two things –

Firstly, I don't really know French but I'm pretty sure "batterie et/ou piles AA" means it can be powered by "[regular] battery and/or AA batteries". That is, not AA batteries OR the lithium battery like the K-r, but both at the same time. That sounds pretty cool, but it could just be poorly worded in the ad.

Secondly, with the K-5 sensor, the double e-dials, weather sealing and K-5 style AF-S/AF-C/MF switch, this is going to cannibalize K-5 sales like crazy. Which, to me, must mean that the K-5 replacement is also imminent.

That is indeed what it means but I doubt it is what the writer intended to say. Besides there isn't enough space to put two battery compartments.

Definitely this will cannibalize K5 sales (though I imagine it is Pentamirror rather than Pentaprism and no top lcd, and there will likely be other differences. I would guess K5 successor isn't too far off either (given the rumoured 3 apsc camera line then is this the middle one??? or the entry!!!)
Certainly looks like a very capable camera

But it also goes on to say that it "enables the photographer to shoot/film for twice as long in severe conditions" which would be downright misleading if it was just like the K-r design. I read it like "in really crappy conditions you probably don't want to futz around with changing batteries, so here's a camera that will enable you to stick some AA's in there as a backup".

Again, reservations for my terrible French and I don't doubt for a second that this could just as well be a misunderstanding or miscommunication. I just thought it was an interesting thing to point out.

excepting details like the top LCD and expansion to ISO 51200
Didn't notice the lack of top LCD.

Most pressing remaining questions now are:

- does it have the silent shutter of the K-5?
- does it have a pentaprism or a -mirror?

Regardless of the answers to those questions, this is really value for money.

Pentamirror most certainly unless Pentax have found a new, cheaper way to manufacture prisms: this thing is priced at the same level as the K200D (€749 with kit lens at launch in January 2008) in spite of a much less favourable Yen exchange rate.

Oh, that earlier post of mine went through – I didn't think it did

Almost certainly pentamirror, yes. Whether the shutter is quiet remains to be seen, but hopefully it is a bit quieter than the K-r, which was surprisingly loud. Not a big deal for me personally, but I realize why that matters to some folks.

Forgive me for repeating myself, but I wonder why they don't just keep the k-5 and introduce another level above it. I wonder what the tooling costs are for this camera vs. the additional piece price costs for the k-5?

In either case, much like the k-5, it looks like a very compelling product.

I guess hardware costs are lower (e.g. processor, RAM, LCD, no magnesium body...)

Let see a drawback to this leak: with those specifications for the K-30, there is very little hope for the K-3 to have a 24x36 sensor, otherwise there would be a huge gap in the Pentax line-up.

Things would have been different if the name of the leaked body had been K-300.
