Bah!! All these speculations make it hard to decide to upgrade my K-7 now or wait. If the K-5n had the same body but with a swivel lcd, focus peeking, and K01 movie modes I'd buy it over the K5 any day. Yarg!

Still, if the K-5 really is going back to $1200 April 1st, I can't imagine the 5n wouldn't sell for at least $1300 starting.

I have a feeling the night of March 31st will be a rough one...
Well if there is a K5n coming I imagine the 999 is the step towards clearing inventories. I really doubt it will jump to 1199 and then have a new version land at the same price.

A K5n with the new prime engine, k-01 movie modes, Focus Peaking and swivel lcd would indeed be very tempting (and would mean if i was looking for a used K5 my willing to pay price for used would drop significantly (into the 6-700 range tops)

Bonjour,

Agreed, considering the K-5 is approaching rapidly the reasonable end of its product life-cycle ... price will not increase, but if so, by very little (IMHO it may go ever lower). And yes, a new K-5n would be tempting, but I'm going to sit tight and await the "K-3" and/or "K-1" ... darn, that's going to be difficult!

Salut, J Frog

Well since I shoot with the K7 still John it will be tough to decide. I agree ultimately the K5 will drop lower. I imagine the last of the NIB stock will go out the door at $849-899 one the K5n is on the street

Yup. I bought my K-7 new for $750 back in June of '10, it was at the same lifecycle stage as the K-5 now. After I bought it, the price jumped to ~$899 and stayed there until it was discontinued. Now I can get ~$500 for my K-7 on the bay, and buy a K-5 for $999. The K-5 seems to be valued about $250 higher than the K-7 at the same lifecycle stage. Thus, used prices will likely trend toward ~$750 in a couple years. Right now K-5 used prices are ~$900. If a K-5n is released at a price point ~$1200, I could see that K-5 used price trending to $750 (or lower) much more quickly. Then of course my K-7 used price would likely drop ~$50-100 as well.

On the other hand, if just a K-3 was released at $1600-1700, I'd expect the K-5 prices to stay more stable. In fact, if the K-5 price went back to $1199 through the summer, I wouldn't be surprised if the used price jumped back to $1000 as well.

A K-5n would be a practically perfect APS-C for me. I don't use AF nor do I need 24MP in APS-C, so the K-3 will likely not be something I'll buy. I'd keep the K-5n for 3 years while I save up for the FF K-1!

3 sold more than 10 available. Still like the K-01 focus peaking - but at this price I could learn to squint harder.

Congrats ... here in France it's 799 € at my fav internet dealer (799 x 1.3* = $ 1040+ ) (Pentax K-5 Nu Pentax) ... there's probably lower, but I stopped hunting after my Nov. 2011 K-5 purchase.

Enjoy, John le Frog

FYI - Just found better in Belgium, K-5 + DA 18-55 WR for 787 €, Pentax K-5 Bo

And this price is including VAT: 19% in the Netherlands, 19.6% in France, I don't know which rate is applicable.

So it's equivalent to $840, tax excluded.

For those not familiar with VAT, "value added tax", or "TVA" in French, it"s the sales tax which is embedded in the purchase price.

So, take my previous calculations and remove about 1/5th and you'll get a ballpark figure price before "sales tax" ... Salut, J
