Maybe Borat can do our public relations
Maybe he can put Pentax's marketing on par with Canikon?

Bonjour,

K-k = "ka ka" = "merde" = sh*t ... in French!

Oh please Pentax, just make it a "K-(number)", like K-02, etc. (but not K-9, obviously) ...

And I disagree (while being Romanian - if that really matters).
K-z could remind you of concentration camps, if you want that. K-z could have very different meanings, or no meaning at all.
Little Boy or Fat Man, on the other hand, are very explicitly referring to atomic bombs. That would be an intentional insult.
The term "K-z" (KZ) cannot have a different meaning/connotation in Germany. It's clearly connotated to the death camps.

Enter "KZ" at google.de (Germany) and your first entry will be the death camps. This is not open to interpretation. Germans will link it immediately to the death camps, which are still to be visited as memorials and deeply burned into the collective memory of the German people.

Time to connect it with something different then? Or are people so fond of those camps that "KZ" is only reserved for those?

A "Pentax K-Z" though, can only refer to that camera, nothing else.

Hm, maybe they should go the other way in the alphabet? OR K-o. Knock-out!
In regards to concentration camps, its a thing that non-Europeans probably just can't understand. To Americans it would be like calling it Pentax 9-11 or something, but still much much worse. I have visited some of these camp memorials (hell, there are some remains in my country) and it really makes it impossible to crack jokes about these horrible places.

I don't think anybody here is cracking jokes about concentration camps. The point is that while to some people that two-letter name is associated with concentration camps, for most it isn't. For example I'm a middle aged European who even speaks some German and I don't recall ever hearing that acronym. BTW, isn't Sony's IBIS often marked as "SS" and they have many products starting with SS.

Hi Pentax
What about an official dementi concerning the name of the successor? Something like "No one has the intention of erecting a wall building a camera called 'k-z'! "
(Yes, pun intended)

KZ is the internet country code for Kazakhstan

The developing Eur-asian market is untapped by the makers of DSLR's to date.
Maybe this is the target market

I think it will be.....

I would have never know Kz has a negative meaning if it weren't for this thread. Still, anyone heard the specs on it yet?

It seems like every two letter combination can mean something bad somewhere. The obvious solution is to use a non-letter, say an asterix (*). Oh wait...
