i hope so. Looks like the DA 40mm is back to msrp...
That makes the XS look like a better deal than when it was $380.

Just bought a DA15 from Amazon for $509. Hopefully this lens brings (momentary) closure to my photographic needs. I've spent a small fortune this year on this crap!

Well, I'd been saving for a DA* 60-250. It's unattainable now. Now I really have to wonder if I want to continue using this system or switch to a more affordable one.

like explained these are MSRP the true street price will come later in the week. Ithink if these were the prices for the top and and they stayed there i'd just flip to Nikon or canon FF since these prices are more than the equivalent nikon/canon lenses (IE f4.0 Ff lenses @ 24-70 vs 16-50@2.8 apsc)
Or just by Sigma lenses which are very good now days. the FA ltds actually aren't bad at list lol so maybe they will actually settle a little lower (the FA31 on BH is the same price the deep discounters up here sell for)

I sure hope so. The DA*16-50's price increase was pretty shocking, too, it went up by nearly $500.

the 60-250 will probably end around 1499-1650 (which is what it sells for in Canada)

That's a shame - I've been watching this very lens, and this morning on Amazon it was still $1249 - not so now when I looked again now.

I bought mine from Amazon last week for $1219 w/free shipping - I had also been saving for this lens for almost a year. I certainly wouldn't have bought it for $2K.

And just a side note - you can get one from Amazon Warehouse in "like new" condition for $1077. These are just returns from customers with buyers remorse or who didn't realize the size/weight of the lens. The only problem with this is you forfeit the manufacturer warranty. But the 30 day return policy is still in effect.

Pentax may be able to set minimums for retailers but they cannot (legally) set minimums for competitors. As Eddie pointed out, and WillWeaverRVA just demonstrated, the competitive market will determine Pentax pricing in the medium term.

The long term is a different question. As Lord Keynes pointed out, in the long run we are all dead anyway.

Is this the possible strategy?

.

One possible way this could be unfolding: Start out at that MSRP, and then just keep dropping the 'Unilateral' price on each SKU say 10% per month until they see the sales figures jump - and land on that discovered sweet-spot price.

To do that, they'll need to start high - which looks like what they're doing.

If this is the strategy, it's bad for anyone who wanted to buy in the next couple weeks or months, but might end up being OK in the long run if it ends with 1) new 'Unilateral' prices close to existing street, but a bit higher, depending on the item - and 2) a real B&M presence.

.

Ouch, I have been saving for a DA 40 f/2.8 and figured I would have enough put aside by the middle of April. Based on the $359 price it has been going for. Checked tonight and it is $499. DO it went up $150 in one day?

Wait a bit, the current rumor is that retailers are selling at MSRP right now and will adjust down to minimum permissible this week.

Yeah wow, I know we were spoiled before, but some of these lenses are just downright unattainable now. I thought Pentax prided itself on being high quality for the money- where cost for equipment might be the same as the competition but you'd get more for the money. Now, I don't know. That 60-250 being at $2,000 makes me worry a bit.

I guess I am going to have to buy the lenses from the store with which I work at and get at least some sort of discount on them...

A couple of days ago I've had DA 15mm in B&H shopping cart, however dis not finalised sale... Now it's price up for $140

I'm moving to Nikon, however I thought that I will keep K-5 with a few limited lenses, now I am starting to think that I should ditch Pentax completely....
