Its going to be a winner for K-01 if the new lens is a 24mm or 30mm no slower than f2.8.
Nice very usable focal lengths that show that the K-01 system is actually smaller than competing NEX system with good lenses mounted.

Same here! They make a fashionable K-01 with fashionable slim lenses (look, yet another standard prime!) and a cute Q with cute tiny lenses... If that's what they will be focusing on in the future, maybe Pentax is not for me anymore.

OTOH the lens roadmap showed a DA* zoom, a long DA prime, and a TC. So I'm not jumping to conclusions yet.

DA28XS (Mirror-less ONLY)
I am sure the photo Adam posted is not DA21.
28mmxs would be great.

Not any thinner than the new lens cap/40mm XS.

There is a DA ltd zoom on the road map. I wonder what the odds of this being the ~22-38mm LTD zoom on the Road map. It would have to be collapsible like a couple of the Olympus zooms. It certainly looks to be of DA LTD build to me. We not its not the DA 50/1.8.

I don't see anywhere on the current roadmap this could fit on predicted lenses. Granted the 40 XS never showed up on a map until after it was released.

For the shape of the front elements and focal ruler on the ring I guess it is a 21mm f2.4

Nex already has Sigma 30mm F2.8 whih is pretty compact. K01 even just body itself isn't smaller than Nex with Sigma 30mm (height, weight, etc).

sony nex are 4cm thick, the sigma 30 2.8 is another 4cm

k-01 is 6cm thick, the pentax 21mm is 2.5cm this new lens is probably thinner

The new lens looks between the length of 21ltd and 40XS, so probably about 20mm in thickness.
It will certainly make K-01 a viable alternative. The NEX may be thinner by about 2mm ( 38.6mm + 38.2mm (lens+body); While the K-01 is about 79mm), but the K01 certainly holds better and the lens will look smaller (the NEX will look like a smaller body, but larger lens).

But lets see...

A lens in the 21-24mm lens makes a lot of sense as a 35mm equivalent. But maybe a 28mm equivalent (I.e. ~18-19 mm) would be even more useful?

If the XS lenses are mirrorless only, I wonder if Pentax will eventually release an adapter that allows them to be used on SLRs? Basically the reverse of what the other brands are doing. This would fit well with Pentax's contrarian approach to most things lately.

Yes, tell them that during the recent Consumer Electronics & Photo Expo 2012 in Russia several details of the forthcoming cameras have leaked. The most interesting and discussed rumor being about a full frame (FF) DSLR. It appears that Pentax already has investigated and considered both the 24 MP and the 36 MP corresponding sensors from Sony. Finally ask, whether already a decision has been made, which one of these sensors will be used.

If the results of the interrogation are unsatisfactory, resort to water boarding. Be sure to wear Canon clothing during any water boarding demonstrations.

No, the focus would be way off. You can do it but you'd have to add some more glass in the adapter. It wouldn't be worth it.

That is true, but f2.8 or f2.4 is quite dark compared to f1.7 or f1.4. I dont know, but I wouldn't consider a normally bright city at night to be a specialist use. And yes, I know there are exceptions, but they are mostly old glass or pretty rare lenses. Third party lenses are a good example here, because they make this type of lenses and they sell well (like the Sigma 1.4 you mentioned).
Agreed, sooner or later I'm going to get the FA 31 f/1.8, even though it is a bit heavy and rather expensive (it's going to be an used copy, probably). I would like a lighter and more compact DA limited normal lens instead, about the same speed as the FA.
