Pentax working on second generation 645D

Pentax working on second generation of the 645D medium format camera

According to Photo Rumors, 645D sensor which was produced by Kodak is being replaced second generation 645D MF camera due to product availability. It appears that Leica is also facing the the same challenges and is looking at a new sensor from a European semiconductor supplier for their upcoming S3 camera.

it was to be expected

they might actually do some marketing for this iteration. funny how people at dpreview practically begged for one for evaluation and didn't get it. weird

They will probably keep the body and include the Prime M processor, new firmware, and the new sensor. Let's hope it's in the 60mp range, at least.

wireless would be a great add on so we probably won't see it put in

I hope all these rumors are true, and by Photokina we're looking at the following new cameras:

Q Mark II
K-r replacement
Mid-range APS-C (K200D replacement?)
K-5 replacement
K FF
645D Mark II

Sounds like a winning lineup to me!

The 645D is a great body as is - the sensor upgrade would be a welcomed development.

I tell you - this year it's 60 years ago since Asahi made the first Japanese 35mm SLR. Under Ricoh's wings they'll celebrate that important fact

Given the existing price level; and probable upgrade in sensor mp...

The existing 645d is about 9k-11k depending... So I would about price the new version at about 14-16k. But I would also be about first in line to get one.

Between the opposites of the new 645d and the K-01 at least i know where a good portion of the rest of the years pay is going.

Every two weeks or so I see you pop up this recurring message - then you go away. For many here what happened the year after the AOC 60th anniversary was more significant than the anniversary itself (which would indicate something for 2013).

Is that called paying both ends against the middle?

Well and possible I think. Qii based on the first edition. PRIME M processor in K-z/midlevel/K-5n and a dual (hopefully) into K FF and 645Dii. When sensors are within reach (for aps-C 16mp or 24mp) and FF (24mp) and a surprise for the 645Dii (CCD or CMOS?) then a lot of the technics are inhouse for Pentax (or coming along with purchasing the parts).

I do think that K-01 gets the function for entry-level instead of a dslr!

I've got a source for that rumor, but it concerns Leica, not Pentax.

First, it will be a CMOS sensor !
And the european semi-conductor company is ST micro.
I've send a post about that on "Chasseur d'images" forum one week ago.
The source comes from a article by "les numériques" about french tech companies : STMicroelectronics : le géant invisible

Here is the interesting stuff :
L'aventure photo se poursuivra sans doute sur la Photokina : "un constructeur allemand de renom", Leica, devrait y annoncer un nouveau reflex – moyen format ? – équipé d'un capteur géant, CMOS, signé ST. À suivre......"
Auto-translate :
The adventure picture is likely to continue on Photokina: "a renowned German manufacturer", Leica, is expected to announce a new SLR camera - medium format? - With a giant sensor, CMOS, signed ST. To be continued ...... "

So, for the next photokina, Leica should announce a Mf with a CMOS sensor made by ST micro, but nothing concrete about Pentax, it's just by extrapolation.

Regards,
Arno

No K-r replacement. It will be something between K-r and K-5...
K-5 replacement could be FF. IMO.

Q2
K-z
K-FF
645D Mk II

The problem is that STM never produced such big sensor for photo imaging devices. Only small and very small sensors...Yes?
Will be such sensor as good as Kodak?
