Next generation 645D must support live view. It must also have considerable IQ advantage over the D800 or almost no one will pay the premium for medium format.

It already does. 645D sensor is much larger than D800.

D800 would have to be 70 mp to best a 645D. And even then it would only matter to pixel peepers

I think they need to start selling the one they've got.

Too rich for my blood, though...I'm saving up for a Q!

The technology of sensor production is rather high now. Even 48*36 mm sensor with any new techology with 60-80 MP razes D800E to the ground.
I've compared RAW files of D800E and 645D from imaging-resours myself. 645D is still better in terms of resolution and details. But the difference is rather low.
Anyway,
I think that Pentax will produce new 645DII with higher MP and old 645D will stay as unexpensive MF digital camera with lower price than now.

OK by me. 40 mp is more than enuf. Load times are long enuf @40. Maybe the old 645D might drop to $7999 with a 2nd gen 645 and I will buy a 2nd bod?

Sometime between now and May, 2013 ("in honor of" the 60th anniversary . . . ).

I have reawakened this thread as these old rumors seemed to be incorrect: The KAF-40000 (645 1.3x) and the KAF-50100 (645 1.1x) still are available.
As even the new lenses cover the full Pentax-645-format, not only an increase in the number of megapixels but also in sensor size could be possible.

According to German fotoMAGAZIN, the Leica S still uses the sensor of the S2:

Yes it does, and the new Hasselblad H5D series use the same sensors as the H4D series; there isn't any new sensor/back announced with the new Mamiya Leaf 645DF+ either.

So, the KAF-50100 still could be a possible option for the 645DII - apart from the KAF-40000 used in the 645D.

As far as I'm aware this is not yet announced at the show, but... I assure you that there are three new Hasselblad backs in the works. One will most likely be in the 75m to 80m range - which is quite close to the Mamiya Credo 80 back. Another newer version of the 50ms back but in higher mp. And of all things - a new film back.

Mamiya also has plans in the 11-13 month range for new backs as well
