While you bought your camera for $430, I know that was not the Recommended Retail Price of the Kx when it was launched. So you can expect to see a lower street price for the K30, but for what it is and compared to the competition in the market, I think it is good value.
Except Pentax has begun enforcing its MSRP as of this year.

Meh, who cares what it looks like? So long as it fits your hand well, the controls are easy to use, and (MOST IMPORTANTLY) it performs well at capturing the images you want to capture.

I like the heatsink on the side.
Could this mean the end of limited LV/recording?

You mean the same MSRP where they were giving rebates that put the k-5 at the same price as before? The enforcement of the MSRP is mainly on the lenses. They said they'll give rebates on those too.

Certainly hope so. How long after launch do you think it will be before they give out new camera rebates?

I don't know - let's watch the K-01.

The Q took half a year, and now it's -200 or something like that. Which is pretty reasonable to me.

I didn't even think about that. And here I thought it was just ribbed for her pleasure

Interesting positioning of this model. At that price it's hard to pitch a model below it. With those features (WR and twin wheels and grip-able) it's hard to pitch a APS-C model above it.
I don't think this is an issue. The higher Canon EOS Rebels accept battery grips. The K-x offered solid performance at a bargain price ($649 at launch).

Ribbed for her pleasure? I put one of those on inside out to see if it'd do a number on me....
also if the fins are heatsinks then that means the body is all metal... also means it's likely machined from a solid block of aluminum.... I'd expect that to really add to the Quality/Solid feel of the camera for sure...
be cool if true, but more likely just a design thing...

I love how it looks like it was designed by Glock as opposed to that lego inspired K01.

Wow!

I'm speechless. My hopes with this brand are high again.

About time for Pentax to realize that affordable + sturdy is their magical formula. Bonus points for the killer design. Losing the top-LCD (useless, reminiscent from 35mm-era pro bodies) and favouring two e-dials instead was the Right Thing To Do (TM).

I'm buying it, for sure. Just hope quality assurance is going to be better under Ricoh (seems like it, I don't see people complaining about the K-01).

Very appropriate comparsion. It makes you think about sturdiness and ergonomy, which are features you usually see in firearms (or in any high-performance tool, actually). That was probably their intention. Particularly, it made me think about climbing equipment, I dunno why.

This is a great looking camera with some more than decent initial specs.

Can't wait to see more pictures, sample shots and a full spec sheet.

And if this is to be the entry level Im really interested to see what is in store for the k5 replacement.

Its fantastic addition to the range.
The size of about a D90 with the performance of a D7000 and more features than that in fact.
A 60D+
A lower cost K5 and lighter too.

An almost perfect travel DSLR APS-C camera, which I wish was avaliable to me when I got my K5.
Lighter, cheaper, while retaining all the nice things about K5 (and perhaps a few new features too)

It certainly sits above entry level cameras and higher end ones of competing brands.
Pentax cameras have always been tiered like that.
