I think the concept of "better image quality" is going to need to be defined a little more clearly before anybody can draw conclusions.
It is a well known fact that Pentax images even from the k-5 are known to have so-so jpeg renderings in camera.. most serious photographers are shooting raw and processing the raw files to get the best images possible from the raw file. But where does that leave the magazine reviewers and snapshooters? with less than stellar jpegs of course.
so the k-01 has better in camera processing and gives up a couple bits in the raw files but results are better (and dare I say it... sharper, more saturated jpegs, more canikon looking results) out of camera... not a bad trade off for image quality overall...
so if the k30 does the same as the k-01, then most people will be happy.. most...
I actually shoot my K-01 JPEG rather than DNG and develop. The results are so good (for what I use the K-01 for) that the time spent in PSE is just a waste. For the first time in my life I'm shooting digital video (w/ the K-01). While I ahve a lot to learn, the results are pretty impressive. Nice to have a multi-purpose device that is competent in both uses.

I will upgrade my K10D to one of the dSLR's (probably the K-6 replacement or a low-mileage used K-5) over the next year and shoot that RAW foe work that I want to print. It really shouldn't be too much to carry a K-01 and a small dSLR with the same, interchangeable lenses.

There's another argument in favor of the K-mount mirrorless!!

The K-30 is sold with the 18-55 WR kit lens in Sweden for around 7 500 - 7 700 SEK (depending on dealer)... It can be ordered now at Cypberhoto.se for 7 490 SEK. So here we get the K-30 bundled with the 18-55 WR. I believe the different importers can make their own kits from the options available.

About time the 18-55mm got an update too whilst we are here. I went through several copies none were really that good.
What about an 18-70mm just to add a bit of difference from the other makers?

In fact, at the moment, only two of my lenses are WR, and they are quite specialised, and infrequently used.
You probably use them for bad weather. As most people would, and some climates demand.

The Pentax DA 17-70 f/4 is partly sealed, it has a rubber gasket to the lens mount. I have this lens myself, it is my standard lens on my K10D.

In the political arena what illdefined is doing is known as disinformation and misdirection. The intent is to foster a discussion of a non-pertinent or untrue subject, thus removing attention from the pertinent (and usually positive) attributes of the core subject, in this case, the outstanding new K-30 camera.

In its most virulent form this tactic follows introduction of some spurious charge, such as that Pentax is wrongly marketing a weather resistant camera that isn't realy weather resistant, which is falsely claimed to be consumer fraud.

In these cases no amount of rational discussion or argument - or even fact-checking and proof-posting - will deter the disrupter from the goal, which is to destroy an opponent before the opponent has a chance to establish valid identity characteristics.

This kind of behavior is bad enough if limited to one discussion or thread - but since illdefined persists in disrupting many threads in several sub-forums with these spurious arguments, one can only decide that illdefined is a troll for Canon or Nikon who is intentionally introducing doubt into these discussions of a truly outstanding new camera released by Pentax, which has an outstanding cost/featuere value proposition.

If, in fact, illdefined is not a troll for Canon or Nikon, then the behavior is so troll-like as to be offensive to then entire Pentaxforums community.

There should be a K-x replacement soon also, if anyone remember those rumors about a colored K-mount dSLR with a K-z with all the combos of colors for each of its component. I think like the Nikon D3200, it should be a 24 mp camera with about 4 fps, okay video, no weather seal, one dial, etc.

From PentaxForums.com: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-news-rumors/186488-k30-k5n-k3-mayb...#ixzz1vbrWG2aT
No, i see no reason to use the 16mp AGAIN. beginners loves to see the number of megapixels and this will be on par with the D3200 and better than the canon's supposedly 18mp (*yawn) for their T4i. Again, more knowledgeable camera users will love the twin dials, the weather resistance, the durablility of the K30, and they should feel that 16mp is plenty especially with the improve iso vs. the 24 mp sensor.

Calling it now, K-z will be 24 mps.

18-55 DAL 2 may not be WR but this is not a huge issue, I shot my K10 without WR lenses in the rain regularly. if you are truly concerned a strip of gaffer tape will seal the body lens contact which is the big concern. for that matter it works for the dal 35 and da 50 1.8 as well without interfering with operation at all. (Gaffer tape may look like Duct tape - it is not, Gaffer tape will not leave residue) you can do this with any a lens and up. pre a lenses it will limit aperture access in most cases.

this is a pretty good bet I think. REal world i'd rather have a K30 over the higher MP D3200 or Pentax response (or Canon) it's a lot more camera for the money, far more in line with an enthusiast level camera without the cost of going that far.

And what you are doing Monochrome is called a personal attack.

Something nobody can accuse me of doing with all my "disinformation" posts. Posts that some people agree with. It's not 'disinformation' if everything I have said is backed by fact.

Fact: the K30 is being heavily marketed as a weather resistant camera, but selling it with and and without WR lenses, potentially leading to market confusion.

Fact: The NewEgg entry lists "Full Weather Sealing" as a Feature of the 18-55mm KIT, not just the camera section.

Fact: B&H lists the WR lens as part of the 18-55mm kit, but shows a DA-L in its picture. Every other retailer so far (Amazon, NewEgg) sell the 18-55mm kit with a DA-L for the SAME PRICE. There is indisputably an error somewhere (pic or listing), or B&H is running it's own or special kit which deserves a confirmation.

You can call me and my posts whatever you want, but it won't change any of the above.

Being a fan of the brand means you CARE about the brand, that's why I've been so concerned. Praising every step a brand makes, dismissing evidence of any missteps, and isolating and alienating people who bring up legit concerns isn't being a brand fan, it's being a fanatic/fanboy/cheerleader. If being publicly called names for stating facts and valid concerns about the Pentax brand is what it means to be part of the "PentaxForums Community" then I want no part in it.

It's weird that manufacturers have to waste resources to build dumb cameras for ignorant people. "I know! Let's severly cripple a body, then pack a new sensor with more MP in it..ya know - just to get people who don't know any better to buy it!"

On edit:
Hmmm...I guess price-point though does matter...let people think they are getting more for less...(but more of what???)

In every sector of consumer electronics this has been the norm for decades. Entry level shoppers look for a simple spec to lock onto and then pursue that one spec. they don't understand the whole package just "this number is bigger so it must be better". at least my 25 years in CE retail lead me to believe that is true. What is also true is as a salesperson when you get that client you do not try and change their mind with facts you just sell them what they want because if you don't they will just go to another store who will. Sucks but it is a fact of life (and it cost me a lot of commissions when i was starting out and I tried to sell people the best at their price rather than the one they perceived as the best - when i learned my income went up about 30%)
