UPDATE: I see by another thread that you already know about the following, illdefined. For anyone else who does not yet know, read on.

Well, it appears that B&H corrected their mistake. They are no longer (mistakenly) offering the 18-55 WR lens with the K-30.

Click here (it is the same for all three colors).

I had a bad feeling that you were right, illdefined.
Thats a bummer, oh well stores will enjoy upselling to WR lenses or the more expensive DA 18-135 bundle.

At least they still have the 18-55WR+50-200WR and the 18-55WR+55-300 kits (and the 18-135 kit is attractively priced, IMHO).

K-5 Hi: 7 fps: up to approx. 26 frames (PEF/DNG) with firmware upgrade,
K-30 Hi: 6 fps (JPG, RAW not possible) ???

No RAW at 6 fps ? only at 2 fps ?

K5 you got right.
K-30 is 6 fps up to 8 frames buffer with RAW only, according to Pentax.

You can use 3fps as well, then the buffer will be 10 frames, in those 3 seconds the camera process 2 frames more... not very impressive.
According to Digital Photography Review http://www.dpreview.com/previews/pentax-k-30/:

"The K-30 can shoot at up to 6 frames per second (just shy of the the K-5's 7fps). This slower frame rate also allows the K-30 to offer slightly longer bursts of shots than the K-5; capturing up to of 30 JPEGs or 8 Raw files (which slightly edges the K-5's 26 JPEG/8 Raws)."

From a K-5 owner (that would be me):
The K-5 can shoot over 20 frames in RAW, before filling its buffer and having to slow down. If you have firmware 1.01 or later.
And Pentax documented this, when they released firmware 1.01.

K-30 has the same buffer as K-5 had before "buffer" firmware - 30 JPEG/8 RAW

Not bad.

K-5 is very slow to clear buffer to say honest. I hope K-30 will be faster. 20 RAW buffer is good...But work with SD card is not very fast in K-5.

yes and no, the size in MB of the buffer of the K5 is much larger.
Don't get your hopes up that the K30 will get the same amount of shots in the buffer with a "simple" update.

yeah it's slow to clear but it's so large that it's not a problem.
I wonder if the K30 will be faster, so far it doesn't look positieve regarding RAW, for JPEG it certainly is super fast.

I love the bit where they're totally criticizing the video performance but then offhandedly say "But as a stills camera it still looks very promising." HELLO, the camera is made for that, still photography. That is it's primary function NOT shooting videos. The fact that it offers the ability to take short video clips, decent ones actually, is a rather nice bonus for some people. It is not more important than the camera doing still photography. No offense but I absolutely hate it when reviewers go there, even suggest a still camera lacks somehow because it's video capacity is secondary to it's stills capacity. It's a freaking DSLR not a video camera and if the video is THAT important to you then go buy a darned video cam and stop expecting a DSLR, a camera made primarily for still shots, to work miracles in terms of video performance. This camera is made to do maybe a 15 minute clip. That's it, period, and it shouldn't be expected to compete with hand held video cams. This obsession some people seem to have with making a DSLR into a full on video camera really annoys me....

There's a heavily-concentrated & vocal anti-video crowd in the Pentax community.

It's here for a reason.

Mrs. ElJamoquio HATED the video-priority of the EPL-1 or EPL-2 or whatever it was.

I don't mind a camera having it. If you find it useful, use it. I don't need it, but I do realize I'm probably not speaking for a lot of people. But I don't think it's particularly fair to disparage a camera that is not really built for that because it's not got the capacity of a camera designated for that. Lately you see far too many reviewers focused on that so called lack and not on what they really should be focusing on. DSLR's are still cameras. Some of them have the ability to record a quick video clip, great, but they're not meant to film movies with. I don't really expect a video cam to take still pics quite the way a DSLR does. Just because I can grab a quick snap from one doesn't mean I am going to ditch my DSLR and run out and grab one. Pentax cameras are brilliant at doing what they are designed for, IMHO. Taking still pics. Video clip ability is just a perk. It should never take away from the main function of a still camera. So far as I can tell having it doesn't impact my ability to take still pics negatively. If it ever did? I'd be very unhappy about that.

The video feature for the EPL-1 was an ergonomic detraction from the ability to take good stills. I specifically "dis-want" a video button, as I *never* use it and don't want it to have the real-estate and chance of hitting it accidentally.

Of course that means dpreview will bitch about the camera not having a video button.

I didn't look that hard for it... but I was happy the K30 didn't have a red button.

Well, if assignable to anything useful, why would you care?
