Why by over a k5 well if it retails for 899 with lens ant the k5 is 1199 maybe price to start. for many people it will hit all the right spots i would guess with the missing features being secondary to their needs/budget. the whole reason for needing a full line (4 cameras - 3 apsc and a FF) is the ability to satisfy a broad base of needs at varying price points. Something that Pentax has been missing for a long time (and likely one of the reasons for lost share - at retail anyway - salespeople love to have options within a line to move people up and down, makes closing the deal easier without having to deal on price as much)

The only thing I'm wondering is why Pentax must be so inconsistent with their camera names...
The same reason they keep changing the K logo, the same reason they keep changing the aspect ratio of the PENTAX logo... the same reason they produce some 'novel' colour schemes... They just have either a naive, or plain bullish approach to marketing. They need to fix that.

Well, if this is an entry/mid level camera, I'm really excited to see the new flagship model... it'll probably be fireproof or something

The description says that the K-30 can use two different types of batteries at the same time?? How would that work?

I'm thinking that if the euro price is correct, it will more like $800, at $900, I just don't see much movement, given that the K5 is selling for less than $1k.

Also, it still would have to compete with the likes of the 5100 and T3i/T2i, and those are closer to 700 or so....just my 2 cents..

What an odd looking thing... It's like a K10D and a K-01 had a baby...
I wonder what the back is like? Everyone is assuming there's two dials, based on seeing one on the front.

Way to go Pentax in keeping your customers in the loop before they jump ship to another brand. Very clever of you to use Amazon to handle your new camera announcement. Here's a screen grab from doing a search on Amazon UK for Pentax K30:

Interesting.

It comes up in search results but the individual pages are 404'd.

That said, here's a screenshot in case they pull them from the search

That blue looks sexy

I agree that the blue is cool. I would probably still go with the white, but the blue is a big improvement over the red.
