What I really wonder is how all this camera information is coming to us. No official announcement yet. Not much viral marketing the way it has been done during the last years. Just a blunt ad in a retailer's magazine with almost full details and a picture. If it was just this one French retailer, I could believe they f*d up but it's listed at Amazon at the same time. So I think one plausible explanation is that some Pentax employee messed up with the curfew date in some retailer info material. And this somebody will probably get his/her ass kicked.
Nah, it's Pentax.

I see where you're coming from - I, like many, took a long time to get over the fugly factor of darth vader DSRs.

Once you do, the calculus is... It's a K-5 in a plastic body with a few cripples... at the moment for nearly the same price. I suppose it will come down, but so will the K-5 if a successor to that comes out. For me should I miraculously find the cash it's line-ball between this and a K-5 on the info we have at the moment.
This camera probably has focus peaking. It might have articulating LCD if that matters to you (it doesn't to me).

Here's an idea for Adam and Ole: Talk with Pentax to arrange for (or at least suggest to them they should start) a teaser campaign for the K-30 so that some publicity can be had. It seems you have direct contact with Pentax representatives, so help generate some publicity and get the sales going once the embargo expires!

Follow Olympus's example!

unfortunately, newcomers are much more likely to look at the big 36mp D800 in that respect.
.
which when scaled back to their camera is a 16mp. newcomers are easily swayed by a number though. that 24mp will sway a lot of people who don't understand all the aspects of what makes a good final file

24MP is the right thing for Pentax to do to make money, regardless of whether it provides a better product.

on the K3 I agree it is a given, also on the FF it is pretty much a given. On an entry model I'm not sure what the costing allows without stripping too many features (like the Nikon has)

24 mp is bigger therefore better...lol!
BTW the .2 inch diameter increase equates to about a 70% increase in cost... on the condoms...
not sure what jumping a few megapixels winds up costing the camera buyer...
but as far as latex is concerned... I'll buy the cheaper ones... I don't mind the snug fit if it means more bangs for my buck...

Quite easy.
You take out the WR and the 100% viewfinder, those things cost a lot of money in production because they need to be precise.
That alone will make the camera 150 to 200 € cheaper

if they're intent on making a k-01 for the masses, they will need to make an all plastic version with mainstream styling and an evf. or hybrid evf/penta mirror..
if they go to the trouble of developing that evf for that mirrorless cam, then it would make sense to use the evf on an entry level d-slr.... especially if the camera is based on the k-01's components. this would also cut development and production costs.

they have said that going forward all VF would be 100% though, so that avenue is out (definitely the low price is Pentamirror though as is this mid model I imagine) Definitely WR is gone, back to a single wheel and various other options gone, with more idiot modes built in (since they cost virtually nothing to offer)

Quite frankly, affordable WR is all this camera really has.

16mp is strictly the APS-C standard now (even for m4/3s) and the 2nd dial is a power feature for the initiated. Its not really a marketable feature for the newcomer, for them its merely a bonus.

This camera *really* needs to be bundled with WR kit lenses.

Remember they did the Black DAL55-300 as a kit with the coloured Kx's aswell as regular black zooms with the multicoloured Kx/Krs. More recently the K-01 has a black lens with the only execption being the white twin lens kit.
So in a word, yes, I think if they do one it will be black. Unlikely to be the same as the K7/K5 grip which is a shame if they are your other camera.
Look at the japanese side, you can get the DA35 in 12 colours, the DA18-55 you could use custom colours i believe not sure about the DA50-200
