I kind of figured the K-01 was the K-r replacement. I am glad to see the K-30 and I am glad to see it does not look like it was made by Fisher-Price. It is a good looking camera.

Now show us a K-3 with Sony's new 18MP sensor (no AA filter) and new 51-point AF system..........

A99 specs are looking pretty good for the price.

Hi there, I found an interesting post from the other forum in Japan.
He has never leaked clear things only abstract ones but it’s always convinced as true once new models were launched.
Excuse my awful translation to English…

PENTAX K-5 Part69

//////////////Quote//////////////
#167 & #170by "Sales Rep of Pentax" 05/17/2012(Thu) 03:45
*2 more models are upcoming.
*K-5 will be discontinued after K-30 launched.
*K-5 price will go up (=> in Japan market)
*18 colors (=> no indication which model)
*The next one is the low price one which has been longed and expected. it will be with unperverted (=normal=appropriate=classic<?>) evolution.
*A compact one is upcoming.
*BTW I'm just a sales rep (responding to questions from others "Are you actually working for development team?")
*K-5 successor will have unperverted (same meaning as the above) evolutions also known as "brush up" and don’t have what you guys are concerning about.
*The last one's image will have obvious difference which assaults into C&N's area. You will immediately see the difference.
//////////////Unquote//////////////

<Supplemental and Presumption>
*18 colors => not sure which model is indicated but most likely K-30 in this context. (there is small possibility to lower price one though)
*the low price one => seems like "real" entry model below K-30. (K-Z or K300?)
*Compact one => not sure if it is indicating normal point & shoot or such like G1X or integrated model with Ricoh's system.
*K-5’s successor don’t have what you are concerning => My assumption is 24MP with lower High ISO performance than current 16MP. But if "what we are concerned" means the fact of still sticking with APS-C then whole context paradoxically means equipping FF?
*C&N’s area=> FPS? AF? Sensor Size? or No LPF? He is mentioning "IMAGE" so that it needs to be directly associated with IQ...sounds like No LPF. Personally hoping everything though

Not Fisher-Price this time. Casio. Instead of K30 it should've been called the K-Shock.

Cannot wait till Pentax goes back to being "unperverted". That's the perfect term really, no better translation needed.
Thanks for giving me hope leonsroar.

It does have a "K-Shock" look.

Maybe that's the Q2?

If that's true and it lowers the price of the old model they will sell a Q to me at least.

Q-2 with a bigger sensor (to actually use the full space inside that Q cavity, if I am correct), and the Q dropping to $399 retail would be nice.

exactly

even the 4k stuff Rare but available isn't overly demanding 3840 x 2160 or about 8 mp

and the next thing 8K is under development and is 7680 x 3840 which will need a 30 mp file if you are very rich and have a huge room (panasonic has announced an 8K 145" plasma no price available)
InAVate - Panasonic / NHK partner on 145" UHD plasma display
I have a triple monitor setup, two of them 30" 2560x1600 setup side by side on the left, and one 24" 1920x1200 setup vertically to the right (pivot mode).
That makes it 6320x1600, and a little bit extra on top and bottom of the pivot monitor, 320*1200. 10.5 MP .
The sum of all 3 cost me about $2100 . I did buy one of the 30 inchers used recently.
The room sure is hot enough this way. I can't imagine with a plasma display.

Earlier this week I was looking at some pics taken with my first digital camera old Olympus C3030 3.2MP compact . They look just right 1:1 on one of the 30 inchers. No scaling needed.

maybe because word finally got out that too many megapixels on COMPACT cameras was a bad thing. everyone who's ever had a compact camera knows all too well how their night/indoor shots look, and when the mp count on those just got ridiculous the new marketing blurb given to salesmen still in high-school was now "less is more".

but people who buy bigger, non-pocket cams, are willing to carry something thats heavy and doesn't fit in their jeans because they are seeking "moar, moar, moar". whether that's mp or zoom. those numbers are easily understood, because even if the common big box retail consumer knew what ISO was, all these cameras have 128,000 ISO now didn't you hear?
Completely agree with that. This is why I keep an old 6MP Nikon as my compact.
I can't stand the noise on compact with anymore than this amount of megapixels. I tried a few Canon some years back. Even at ISO 80 there was way too much noise on indoor shots ! It is hard to believe, but picture quality has actually regressed in compacts over the years as they added MPs.

This K30 news seems indeed to be a worthy successor to the K200D.
I guess I wasn't patient enough for it, I bought a K-r recently, at a steal of a price at Fry's.

I hope the US pricing will be under $700. I just checked my receipts and my order for a K200D with 18-55 non-WR lens was $677 back in may of 2008.
I think it will likely be in the same ballpark. European and UK prices tend to be way higher than US prices for a variety reasons.
I might actually sell my K-r and buy the K30 body when it comes out.

The US pricing should probably be minimum $750 with the lens. Any cheaper and naysayers on this forum would quit.

What I mean is - pricewise, it cannot be the k-5 replacement. The k-5 is a semi-pro (or pro) APS-C camera. It competed with the 7D and the D7000. That is it's specific class. It retailed at $1500 with the WR kit lens. To put in perspective, the D7000 was the same price, and the 7D was about $100 more.

A replacement camera should fit into the same category/price level.

The $899-999 category is the enthusiast level APS-C camera. That is the T3i and the D5100.

The $599-699 category is the entry level APS-C camera. That is the T3 and the D3100.
You are comparing this with last year's cameras and prices.

The Canon T3i is currently $749 new with 18-55 lens on Amazon. Not $899-$999.
By the time the K30 is out, Canon may have another camera out too, or at least announced. There are 650D rumors.

The Nikon D5100 is $699 new on Amazon with 18-55 lens. Again, not $899 =$999.

The new Nikon D3200 is $699 . See D3200 Nikon Digital Camera | Digital SLR Camera from Nikon . And is 24MP. That's with 18-55 lens.
Some people have already received it. There are verified reviews on Amazon.

IMO, based on price, these are the cameras that the K30 will be competing with.

I'm quoting MSRPs. What they were introduced at - and those MSRPs are pretty consistent.

The Nikon D3200 is entry level. If the D3200 is $699, tell me what the D5200 is going to be priced at?
