I guess that I was also thinking that the actual display resolution is somewhat irrelevant. With pics there are some advantages for getting good display results from higher mp sources. Also, with the myriad of cropping and pp stuff that you can do, the sky is the limit on how much mp's can evolve. The fact that people may want to view it on large flat screens is just my thought on why someone may want to use more mp's a part of a decision tree for deciding on what camera to purchase.

Like I wrote, I will admit that I don't know all that much about sensors. However, at this point there has to be considerable effort being put into implementing 24mp technology. It may max out its aps-c size effectively for most lens setups. But someone might be able to get it to perform at a high level, too. It will be interesting what R/P decides to use for the eventual semi pro replacement. They may tweak the original 16mp sensor one more time. It would save a lot people some storage / file transfer rate wait issues.
