So you're saying Pentax's "entry level" is other companies "mid-level", because they are a higher-end brand? Ok, you're allowed to think that. I think most consumers (and retailers) would disagree with you though.

I am saying that Pentax will not be offering a dSLR that ranks below the K-30 in features and price. I believe that you have been saying the opposite. Either one of us could be correct, but you will probably be wrong.

The DA WR lens didn't exist at the time of the K10D, K20D or K200D. Short of packing it with a DA* they had no other choice.

The K-7 and K-5 were sold with DA WRs, and if Pentax is marketing the K30 as an affordable WR camera, than it should include WR kits, especially if theyre making marketing claims about "full worry-free weather sealing" on them.
very agree.
I think better offer either body only or with WR kit
the next level WR lens is 16-50, and that cost 1500....
so for most people if they want a standard wr lens go with their k30.
wr 18-55 will be the only chocie to go
buying a non wr kit lens at first is wasting money.

I do not think so. 54 minutes to go, until midnight here in France, as it has always been the case.

Battery grip options? If this is not available, such as the case with my current KX and the KR, I'M gonna look for a used k5!!!! Living everything else though. Hopefully the K5 replacement will also go with the dual battery option..........Cause that's the one and only thing I don't like about it.
This is also a reason I want the K200 replacement - K30. and one of the reason I hold on to buying K5 for quite a while....only when I thought Pentax discontinue the K200 line, I bought the K5. I do hope K5 replacement come with dual battery options - this will become Pentax's unique feature as well (beside WR), like the K-r, K30.

No, what I'm saying is that with those specs, that 2nd dial, and that price, the K30 is clearly a mid-level camera. Just like the K200D before it.

Pentax said earlier this year that they are planning a 4 DSLR lineup. I believe one of those will come under the K30.

I believe Pentax will release what is essentially a K-01 with a VF and dSLR body as the entry-level camera, but not until K-01 has exhausted its potential sales. The K-30 is significantly more capable than the K-01.

It`s somewhat confusing, all K-series entry-levels had no top-lcd, no WR and just 1 dial. This is WR, has 2 dials but no top-lcd...same like the K200d except for the LCD. My guess would be midlevel also.

You might be right, but I think that industry will be moving too fast to allow that to happen. I think the successor to the K-01 will still be a MILC. I think that the market for really cheap dSLR's will be eclipsed by MILC's.

Actually, the K200D only had 1 dial. So really, this is above that level even.

And the weathersealed OM-D and upcoming GH3 are already putting pressure on SLRs like the K30 and K-5.

not sure if this was mentioned earlier .. but if the K30 is the follow-up for the K-r ... would that make the chances bigger that the follow-up for the K5 goes FF >?
