Does anyone know if the the colours on these or earlier cameras will wear off leaving marks. Does the colour go into the polycarboate or is it a surface coat. I would be tempted to go for a colour other then black but i would not want the colour coming off later.

cheers

Jeff

Love that you can chose for glossy or matte finish.

Likely homogenous polycarbonate. That is the way that I have seen every other plastic Pentax K dSLR made. I can imagine any other way of manufacturing as being cost prohibitive.

2nd edit: why the hell do we never get all the colors anyways? Would it really be that hard to make them a special order only option even if they don't want to normally stock them outside of the usual home markets?
Exactly, even within JP they are order only on most. Just set up a page on the local distributor site allowing ordering at msrp (so no deal like you might get in store)

The matte silver looks like a Limited version... Most of the glossy colors look like car finishes. Reminds me of Nikon's D3100 with its shiny metallic colors, but with the K-30's rugged, masculine design the Nikon paint starts to look like nail polish.

Flex circuits are the weak link on electonics because they innevitably wear out with use. Swivel screens on handy-cams, notebook lids, flip cellphones, etc. all those fail first at the flex board component. So much so that you often don't have trouble finding spare flex circuits on the market or having it fixed at a repair shop, there's a demand for it.
I understand the rationale. I was asking for evidence. That's a different thing entirely.

It also misses the point that if something is worthwhile, it may be worth risking as a point of failure. For example: shutters all fail inevitably, but we risk that and judge the life of the product based on it, The response is definitively not "I won't buy that because the shutter could fail." Because that is a partial analysis that takes into account only the negative side of the balance sheet.

But I won't belabour the point further. Some things, apparently, I am unable to explain to certain readers' satisfaction.

No, no, it's "crystal" or "silky".

K-01 firmware on K-30?

I noticed an interesting something!? What's your thoughts about this issue?

Ha! Apparently, it's got the pre-release firmware on it (borrowed from the K-01)...

What are you guys talking about? That's clearly a leaked picture of the K-01 followup with viewfinder.

Means the hardware is most likely precisely the same.

Would like to see either the Crystal or Silky grey/silver offered here. They look really close to the graphite black of the fake K-3 from April first. I can't imagine ever getting a camera in something other than black or silver, but that's just my dull self.

Yeah, I surprised myself—after spending about 10 minutes flipping through all the various color options, I finally settled on one: matte black. Ha! Despite my natural inclination towards uniqueness and bold colors, my gadgetry preferences tend to be pretty tame. I like black, chrome/silver (not gray); leather; and (in theory) inlaid wood. I really, really like the perforated leather look of the K30—that looks sharp! (The lack of battery grip bums me out, though...)
