360 degrees in all directions should mean a glass sphere...so it should be water proof as a bonus...but how to change battery and SD card???

360 degrees doesn need a complete sphere. Just a hemisphere.
Competing products sell for ridiculously high prices, so I guess Ricoh decided there is money to be made in this field.
360 degree imaging is great for real estate - which is the greatest market for the field.
Unless their product is a gimmick or a cheap gadget, there is a market waiting for a serious player to enter.

Have a look here:

And even more expensive...

Maybe a 360' lens accessory, but a full blown camera devoted to 360' photography?
I don't see the pay-off for the R&D on this one.
Perhaps it is for the people that run around taking pictures for Google Earth.

A cheap solution: Grab a P&S or dSLR with video or continuous bursts. If dSLR, put a wide lens on it. Switch on the video or burst mode. Wave the camera around, covering as much of a view as you can stand. If shooting video, load the file into an animation app and extract every Nth frame. (I use AnimationShopPro3.) If shooting burst-stills, select every Nth frame. Now use AutoStitch or whatever to stitch those together into a pano.

F mount is Nikon. Pentax is K mount.

And I thought the "official rumor" is they are discontinuing the Q line?
Actually, given its an aps-c sensor, I fail to see why so many people gripe about the k-mount. Many have said that the downside of the K and F mount (Nikon) is the limit on very fast lenses such as an 85/1.2. However, they are perfect for developing compact lenses with FF coverage. They still allow for some pretty fast lenses (50/1.2, 35/1.4, 85/1.4, 135/1.8 etc). As far as the NEX et al. goes, they maybe thinner, but it isn't like you would be able to pocket them with most prime lenses anyway. Look how panny started reducing the size of the m4/3 body from the GF1 to GF2 to GF3. It won't surprise me if Pentax gets the size down on future K-01 type bodies. However, I don't think Pentax needs another fledgling mount at present. The Q is enough of a risk cup.

I'm thinking now a 360 lens in a long exposure star trails kinda thing. Trails might look downward spiral. =)
