Old news, sorry. It's already for several days in a few other topics in News & Rumors.

Where, what, haven't seen it in any other thread!

Lets make this the K-1 thread if it's really something. What does the text say? :-)

Indeed, it was mentioned in a couple other threads.

Essentially an article in a magazine showing off their predictions of future products with some mock-ups.

I think it was the same magazine that predicted the new K200 a few years ago.

I think it's true. 24 MP APS-C camera from Pentax this year.
Canon EOS 3D, Canon EOS 70D and Nikon D400 will be announced before Photokina 2012. IMO.

BUT...It's just prediction of photo magazine's writers.

K-1 already exists but it's the (2006?) rebranding of the MR-52 (internal code name) / MZ-D 24x36 prototype shown during Photokina 2000 and again at PMA 2001, the launch of which was officially cancelled in 2001 due to the cost of its 6 Mpixels Philips sensor.

Here the K-1 in 2006 (click on a vignette to obtain a 800x600 picture)

The K-1 made a new apparition recently on 16 July 2011 during a special Pentax presentation of the Q to Japanese bloggers:

Nothing to do with the successor to the K-5.

Couldn't figure out the Kanji from that photo... even the katakana's hard to look at (or my eyes are really weak). Will look for a bigger reference...

Question: Why bring it out? Is it just to compare the size of the Q to a "full-frame" camera, even though it never got into production?

Not really relevant to the issue of whether or not there will be a real, usable K-1, but I have to say every time I see that K-1 prototype it makes me wonder where they keep that thing. Do the Pentax execs each get it on alternating weekends?

They should just trash the damn thing, a potential not met is simply failure.

It's probably also the only Pentax DSLR with a diaphragm simulator.... Gimme that K-1 now even though the sensor is bad ;-)

I do think it's encouraging that they keep taking the full frame camera to different photo shows... but...
What's less ecouraging is that it's the same MZ-D they announced back in 2000 at photokina...

The "failures" of the early Pentax digital cameras is legendary.
It is why I managed to source them for my personal collection.
I have an EI-100, several EI-200/HPC18 and two of rarest cameras I own - the EI-C90 and the EI-2000/HP912.
They are nearly impossible to get.

LOL. That is less rare, but definitely "up there" as a collector item. Those are fairly common. The Optio MX is another interesting bird, but also fairly common.
