The EI-C90 -> EI-100 ->EI-200 and EI-2000 show the "failures" leading to, and part of, the MZ-D fiasco. The littered corpses of Pentax-joint-ventures. The *ist-D is the camera that saved Pentax - literally. If it was not for the *ist-D, there would be no Pentax DSLR cameras. I'm not sure Pentax would have survived on just the Optios. I also believe that the WR/WG cameras were another thing that saved Pentax.

If anyone ever does a historical retrospective on the future of a re-born/successful Pentax, they will look at the late 90's and early 2000's as the time Pentax transitioned to a new photographic medium from film and was close to folding. Pentax cameras were *that* close.

I bought much of my glass when Pentax was on life support.

I wish I would have bought more.

When Pentax finally makes their FF camera, it will be a story drawn out over the last decade.

LOL. That is less rare, but definitely "up there" as a collector item. Those are fairly common. The Optio MX is another interesting bird, but also fairly common.
Of the unconventional Optios, I prefer the Optio X!

The Optio "X" was definitely one of the odd balls, but again, not as rare as the earlier models!

I think if the rumors of the "360 degree" camera pan out, it will be another one of the Pentax odd balls - like the Optio X.

Question: Why bring it out? Is it just to compare the size of the Q to a "full-frame" camera, even though it never got into production?
During this special presentation of the Q to Japanese bloggers, Pentax showed a whole bunch of cameras:

- Pentax Q
- Pentax K-5
- Pentax K-1
- Pentax 645D
- Pentax 645 Japan
- Pentax 67

i don't know why they would do that if they didn't want to look like they were going to actually make that thing. also where is the LX?

May be just to show the variety of "sensors" in the Pentax line-up, past and present, and to insert the Q in a continuum.

They were also showing the lacquered and gold-trimmed 645J (a limited edition from 1992) and the 67 and aren't exactly "going to actually (re)make those things".

I still have an EI 200 that works great. And for a measely 2 megapixel point and shoot it actually produced very nice images. I had one image from that camera that sold to an ad agency that used it in full page color advertising in two different ad campaigns and for banners and product catalogs for several outdoor equipment companies. The image on the banner is printed at about 18" x 18" so I'm guessing they used Genuine Fractals (now Perfect Resize).

That line-up is impressive, but incomplete without the inclusion of this:

OK so... this "blogger's event" from Pentax-Japan, do Pentax branches in other countries do that too? Or is it another Japan-only thing?
