Pentax 18-55mm F3.5-6.7 APS-C??????????????????????So-net???

Can't read much Japanese. Neither the creepy google English. Does it mean that the rare element can be moved to the sensor as close as 3mm?! What does "back focus 3mm" mean?
And if I understand it correctly, when zoom out, only 1.5cm of the lens will be outside the camera. :cool

No. It's normal zoom.

yes, but with f6.7 AF on K-01 won't be fast anymore. To my experience the AF is faster and more accurate (under low light) with fast lenses (FA31mm, DA*55mm and FA*85mm).

Trade-offs exist. Fast zooms aren't small. Small zooms aren't fast. Big zooms probably aren't as agile (fast AF) as small zooms. Wee tiny zooms -- and a DA 18-55/3.5-6.7 XS will probably the smallest Pentax AFZ ever -- certainly seem well-fitted to wee tiny cameras.

Does slow aperture affect agility? I'm not sure. On my K20D, I just rough-tested my F35-70/3.5-4.5 @70mm with a 2-stop filter mounted for an effective aperture of f/9, and it seems just as agile with or without. And without a filter, the F35-70 seems no less agile than my FA50/1.4. Will a DA 18-55/3.5-6.7 XS be as agile as a Limited? Probably not. Will it be agile enough for users wanting a pocketable package? Maybe.

Slow lenses have their place in the food chain. Well, they used to, anyway. I have various 35-40-75-100mm f/4.5 lenses. In their native 135/FF habitats, they would be roughly AOV+DOF-equivalent to 24-28-50-65mm f/2.8 on APS-C -- not totally unreasonable products.

No kidding. I noticed that as well. That kind of blows. But otherwise the numbers look generally speaking pretty good I say.

The author of the page was thinking that when this design was underway, Pentax probably had different kind of mirrorless concept in the works, as based on this design it will be difficult to fit all the protruding components within the K-01 body . . . .

20% barrel distortion at 18mm?

Some m43 lenses have severe barrel distortion corrected through proprietary software in-camera.

It's proprietary so you cannot test for it
