What do you think about K20D and K200D price?

K200D RRP 800
K20D RRP 1300

Don't you think they are too optimistic?

800 for K200D forces to look at it like to successor of K10D, not K100D. 800 is more than K10D costs now and K10D definitely is better camera. Also 800 for K200D means that K100D Super stays in Pentax line-up, in other case Pentax won't have any entry level DSLR (pricewise 400-500).

Also 800 puts K200D into direct competition with Nikon D80 and Sony α200. And somewhere inbetween Canon 400D and 40D. Well, pretty tough competition I must say. K10D did quite well, however K200D is stepped down K10D...

1300 puts K20D above Canon 40D and just below Sony α700 and Nikon D300. In department of IQ I have no doubt that K20D will excell. However what about AF? In German brochure I did not find (my German is very poor though) anything like "much faster AF than before", "fastest in it's class" etc. Does that mean that AF-C is still Achilles Heel of K20D? I hope (really hope) Pentax managed to properly program their AF controller and K20D is able to focus as fast as its direct competitors.

I remember reading Hoya statements that Pentax produce underpriced cameras. Well, It seems they decided to price them "right" and make better profit. Let's see how will these "much less bang for the buck" DSLRs compete in DSLR market.

But you've also got to consider what the prices were when they were introduced, which I believe was $999 for the K10D, maybe more. MSRPs are far different than street prices.

I'd say the K20D is decent. A bit higher than I'd like, but still competitive (note that's FAR below the D300, the A700's a lot cheaper than the D300). K200D, not so much. A bit high when the A200 is E100 cheaper with the kit lens, offers essentially identical specs other than the sealing (but gives a larger buffer in return).

Keep in mind that the K200D is fully weathersealed!
Neither D80 nor a200 offer that I think.
Not even the 40D does!
Not sure about a700 and D300.

Also K200D is smaller again, which I personally like.

I didn't know the K200D would be weather sealed. That's pretty cool.

K200D does not appear to be fully weather sealed. It appears to have dust+moisture sealing only (the battery & SD card compartments are the giveaway here). So equivalent to the A700's sealing and better than the 40D's. But that doesn't really justify the 100 euro difference over the A200, especially when the A200 offers deeper buffers (something useful to more people) and much higher card write speeds (courtesy of UDMA support, no SD card is even close to a 300x UDMA card in performance).

K200D has 60 seals in the body!

Seals look almost identical to the K10D. There are 12 less than the K10D, but there are also a few things missing on the body between the 2.

That number is irrelevant. It only depends on the number of openings and buttons. Canon's EOS 1D needs less seals because it has a magnesium body. Magnesium was pretty water tight last time I checked it.

I'm ok with the price, it'll proberly be much higher in Denmark, but I figure I'll buy it from the US or Germany and try to save a bit.

K10D was something like $1500 here when it came out.

LOL, straight up Magnesium would make the K20D a bomb all right, the first time you put the weather sealing to the test!

I didn't expect I'd have to be THAT specific.
