As someone on photo.net pointed out, 1.6mpix is 33 pixel-binning from a 46723104 sensor. If they went to 22, it'd be 3.6mpix. Any other option would be non-integer division of the photosites so may be hard to do fast.

With 3.6mpix, if you extrapolate from the 9 to 4, you get roughly 9 fps. I could definitely use that sometimes.

This is probably not possible, but it'd be nice to be able to have the option to use the center quarter or ninth of the sensor rather than binning, so you'd have the option of the same burst rate but with a 4.5 or 3 crop factor. So, with your new 300mm f/4, you get 21fps and a 35mm-effective focal length of 1350mm.

3.6 would most definitely be a lot more usable than 1.6. So would be 9fps vs 21fps

as I said in other post, the GX-20 is rumored to have up to 9 fps...

Thoughts on where 1.6MP images shot at 20 fps might come in handy?
Sounds like enough resolution for most web graphics, where image size must be as low as possible to minimize page load times.

Yes, this means you would turn your K20D into a (very fast) point-n-shoot. Sometimes that's good -- it would be nice to have the option.

Another thing, let's say the ~1550x1050 resolution is the only avaiable fast(20fps) speed of the camera. Well at this resolution the image should be extremly sharp (it's resized from 14 megapixels right ?), also very low noise even at iso 6400.

What does it mean ? Well using a good software you can very easy turn this image into a 3000x2200 image, (~6 Megapixels). There are softwares like SSpline that based on vector algoriths can double the image resolution with little loss in details or sharpness. Of course it will not be just the real thing, but you can get this way very printable 4 or 6Mpixel interpolated photos made at 20fps.

burst mode, video and new grip

There were indications that the new grip that would come with the k20d might intriduce additional features. The general possibility of shooting 20fps with for aprox. 5 seconds seems somewhat limited and maybe it is just limited by the slow hardware of the camera. What if the grip adds so much power, storage and maybe a processor for encoding H.264 video that you could shoot 24fps forever or only limited by your sd card(s)?
Only problem seems to be lack of autofocus. Is there a way to implement some focus ability via grip? Now that WOULD be a bomb!

4 fps with standard IQ and I would have bought....
Even 4 would have been too slow, im too used to the 5fps on the 20D. Although, it would have been good if we could have gotten 8fps using a 6mp image

Excuse me, you would like a lens more than 200mm (300, then?), with F/2,8, but not * to avoid high prices?

How much do you expect to pay for such a lens?
Yes I would. A bit more than a comparable Sigma/Tamron/Tokina.

In fact a 60-250/2.8 would be cool, or 60-200/2.8. f4 is too slow for my uses often.

As long as they still offered an f4 version as well, like canons 70-200 range. Would be a good move as far as im concerned, they would make money from people who want a quality fixed aperture zoom but dont want 2.8 or cant afford it and then from people who need it for 2.8.

Price it at around $1000 AUD for the f4 version and ~$1600 for the 2.8 and they would be okay i guess.

Pentax Imaging - Pentax Press Release

FTA:
"When switched to the new high-speed advance mode, the user may capture up to approximately 115 images at the speed of approximately 21 images per second.*

* The image size is fixed at 1.6 megapixels in the Burst Shooting mode."

A bit disappointing to those where were expecting to vary the fps:MP ratio dynamically to something more useful.

Thoughts on where 1.6MP images shot at 20 fps might come in handy?
I agree, it would be nice to be able to trade fps for resolution. Anyway:

20 fps would be handy photographing rockets! Without something like that it is quite a challenge to get the shot before the rocket has left the frame; getting a series of the ascent is impossible! These were taken witht he *istD, later we experimented with a Casio Exilim P&S, which could do 25 fps at reduced resolution but only for one second. Having 4-5 seconds would be much better.

This is an example where resolution and image quality is secondary to documenting the event. It's not art, just fun
