FPS rate petition for new K20D

Could you please refrain from discussing anything here unless directly commenting on the frame rates of the K20D.... mmmh

Would love to see how many of you like an adjustable frame rate. Like something where we can increase the frame rate from between 20/sec at 1.6Mp all the way to 3/sec at 14.6 Mp. And I like this to be RAW+JPG.

so please vote - even if Pentax is not looking

Well, all I can say is that I'm very dissapointed that they did not give us at least 5 fps. I guess it doesn't matter since the focussing is still the same. 3 fps might be enough if the focus system would track even that fast. 20fps is totally useless if the auto focus isn't tracking!

well, lets wait a little... there might be those landscape photographers. Can't see a rainbow being that fast that it requires a shooting rate of 6 fps

I voted C.

IMHO the framerate has to follow the ability of the AF system to be of use...

That is still unconfirmed, but I sincerely doubt, that it will do AF and have AF active in between shots.

But then again, 3 fps is more than enough for most of what I do

I mean, if I was a rainbow shoter, I would prefer "Being able to adjust it between 20fps and 3 fps with a corresponding file increase"
Who knows, all of a sudden the rainbow may start rock'n roll.

20 FPS at 1.6MP/frame is similar to what a modern camcorder can do. I think adding a video function (which in my mind is what this gimmick is) to a quality photographic instrument is a waste of resources. I would much rather see, for example, 5 FPS at 6.4MP/frame - at least then, one could expect the image quality to be comparable to that of the K100.

While I wouldn't mind 5-6 fps, I would rarely use it. Pictures of my son when we are the zoo. Stuff like that. More often than not I have strobes attached my my camera, and they take a few seconds to recycle so fps are of little concern to me.

Since the shutter assembly is the same one from the K10 I doubt that it is capable of faster cycles so an adjustable rate would be impossible. A redesigned assembly would make the camera cost even more money and since there are already complaints about the price I can see why they left it out this time.

I'd love it if they stretched it just a little bit, to 30fps at 1080p resolution, or even DV

Some have said the 3fps is fine. Heck, 1 or 2 fps is fine if you don't do a lot of action or birding (specifically BIF). All I know is that when I borrowed a 1DMkII, I got a higher keeper rate BECAUSE of the faster AF and FPS. At one time, I was specifically looking for a used one with a couple of long teles to do this kind of photography. Then I heard about the K20D and I hoped that it would have a higher fps. So much for that.

The K20D is not comparable to the af and framerate performance of the 1DMkII. If anything, it's more like the 1DsMKII, a studio, landscape, and single shot beast (if the IQ holds up). I will probably get it just for those purposes, but I will still be hunting for a sport and BIF rig...

PLEASE please please

Please Pentax can you make a firmware upgrade to alow user controled FPS-burst MP/file adjustment. I dont mind being able to only shoot 12-10mp at 4-5fps or 5-6mp at 6-7fps or even 4-5mp at8fps but at 1.6mp its rather unless to have even at 20fps.
