Well, MF like 645D now gets competition from D800 and the likes because they bring resolution and their sensor isn't that smaller.
The camera is (somewhat) smaller, requires no mount change, offers better High Iso and stabilization (either sensor or in lens).

I can see how 645D might have heat at its bottom. It's not destroyed, not the same market but some FF are now considered in other markets and they offer high iso/stab.
It's not really competition, though. It's a lot like saying that a great APS-C body is competition for FF.

also because it's Nikon trying to hit at it, which Pentax tried hitting at earlier with the 645D. I sure hope Pentax brings a followup to the 645D that can knock it back up the scale. Not in megapickles, but ultimately in IQ, for its commercial output value.

Yes absolutely. In some situation a D800 might be considered where it wouldn't have before. Some might prefer one cam for the job rather than multiple outfits. But that's it.

I agree. But I hope Pentax won't wait one more year to upgrade the 645D, it now needs an update.

I don't like Pentax's MF system for various reasons. No changeable backs, no leaf shutter.
Such things do matter in studio photography.

Huh? There are LS lenses for the Pentax 645 and 67 systems.

(My first SLR, bought when I was 14 or 15, was a Topcon with behind-the-lens leaf shutter )

The new DFA's don't, and the 645D is in a price segment that would benefit from such technology.
