Official samples

We now have some official samples.

BTW, K20D .jp is also online - but very slow though. No samples pics found there.

pentaxslr has 3 samples - but no info or exif on those photos.

Japanese web site has two, complete with shooting info:
PENTAX.co.jp

The first lady image was shot by DA* 16-50mm at 1/640 s F/5.6, ISO200 (with extended DR ON), EV +0.3

The second image was shot by DA*50-135 at 1/320 s F/8.0, ISO100, EV -0.7, Sharpness +1 (Fine Sharpness ON), Contrast +2

Both using K20D Firmware Ver 1.00 in-camera RAW conversion.

Wow the image of the bride is nuts... all the detail in the fabric and the veil! That dynamic range is really starting to show!

The JPEG compression is 6! Half of the full quality!

Oh man... this is going to be a problem... with all this detail, I'll have the bride beating over the head because you can count the pores in her nose!

To wait till April... Sweet torture

Eerrrr... am the only one to think that the bride image is unbelievably noisy for an ISO 200 shot?

Look at the background and oof parts... am I just seeing things?

Welcome to the CMOS world. My Canon D40 does the same thing.

One of the main reasons I am leaning twards keeping the k10d and not upgrading.

The bride shot is not that bad. It would require a bit of PP but that is way sharper with more details comparing to k10d images.

Just the night time high ISO shots do not look too good at all ... User's fault I think ...

That might be the price of HDR effect as dark areas need to be brightened up (I believe).

Seems the photo was taken Nov. 10 2007. Maybe a very early firmware?

Very bad CA in the photo with the bride
So the DA* 16-50 is still not as good as it should be...

I think you hit the nail on the head. There is a K20 video on YouTube by Pentax that states the high dynamic range mode comes at the cost of added noise.

Mmmmh: obvious banding in the B&W shot of the cathedral(?) in the shadows (in the upper windows)...

... wait a minute... that's not banding, it's actually a very fine grid probably put here to avoid people from falling

Wow!... If that's indeed the case: I am sold on resolution...

damn there is some detail in those shots (like the iso400 cyclists !!!). Now I'm starting to be impressed / excited

I am wondering / thinking matjazz may be right, the cyclist iso 400 seems to have a lot less noise than the houses which was iso200 but seems to be higher than normal dynamic range

In fact, it's a fine mesh preventing doves (flying rats, you know) flying in.
