A very attractive price; I will likely get one to replace my A50 1.7, which while I do adore, I don't use nearly enough due to lack of autofocus.
Can't recall where but some were saying that the new 50/1.8 is actually optically the same as the 50/1.7s just with an artificial change in the f to differentiate it because it's inexpensive. If that is the case, and you've enjoyed your A50/1.7, then this ought to be a hit.

Yeah. You probably already know this but I am pretty sure that this 50 is a plastic mount without quick shift just like the 35mm f2.4. Not altogether a bad thing - just saying. Probably another budget / economy lens with decent optics. I think the two DAL products (the 18-55 II and the 55-200) are only meant for body bundle sales. Hence the only reason I can think of that the 35 f2.4 and this 50 f1.8 aren't labeled DAL since they can be purchased independently of anything else.
The Amazon listing reports that it supports "Quick shift focus system for instant switching from auto to manual focus." So does the Pentax site.

I didn't immediately see anything related to mount material but I expect that you're right about that.

Images appear to show it with a black mount, leading me to believe that in thst regard it is like the 35/2.4. It is reported to have rounded aperture blades though

You're right. I was just looking at the specs page. It will be interesting to see if it actually has quick shift. Another Pentax ambiguity. Imagine that!

You can still purchase the 50/1.4. These are economy lenses and offered as such.

It's cheap. It's Pentax. I will probably buy it. I would love for it to have a metal mount, but that is not likely to be.

In Japan, this lens has an official release date of July 20. That usually means they will have stock in the stores.

In the case of the K-30, it seems that they started shipping to people worldwide just around the same time as it was released in Japan. So hopefully, this lens will ship pretty soon.

I have the DA 35 and for all its missing "scientific" features it seems the photography hell it came from isn't as bad as it seems

so if the price is right when it comes to my country, I'll probably buy one too.

...and hope it won't backfocus on my K-x!

So it's not WR and it cost more than my F 50mm 1.7 I think I'll keep mine.

If you already have an AF 50/1.7 then great. The list price is only going to work for a while. The Maximum Assured Pricing is not working as evidenced by the several recent "adjustments", so I would bet that this will soon sell for about what the 35/2.4 sells for - which is $179.

The New lenses look better than the F 50 & FA 50 on a K-5 camera.

That's as may be, but the real measure of a lens is how good what comes out of the camera looks.

Well, it's a budget lens... so it's meant to be non-WR. There's the DA*55 for that albeit the additional 5mm of focal length.
If the DA 50 does have quick shift as the Amazon catalog says... then all the more value! I don't think the F 50 1.7 has that (though the IQ from the F 50 1.7 is undeniably good).
