I don't understand the big issue. If people want a more expensive lens, then get the FA 50 or, the DA *55, both of which do have a metal mount. Pentax clearly cut costs as much as possible with the DA 50 f1.8, while trying to make it relatively durable.

If you want to replace the plastic mount with a metal mount yourself, it probably wouldn't be that hard to do, but I doubt that that is what would break in this lens anyway.

Erm? You can believe what people on this forum are saying. You can also understand that people who complain are the most vocal.

I stepped up and said my DA 35 F2.4 survived a nice high fall. Will other owners who have gone through something similar come out here and say so? Not likely - they probably wouldn't bother talking about how their plastic mount lens survived things because they wouldn't pay much attention to it.

True, although I will say that I see more positive reports here than on many forums I've been on. When we find something that went above and beyond or just plain worked incredibly well I see members here pointing it out by posting too.

Heck, even I have praised PRIC USA for their recent upping of their game on how they've handled the K-30 rollout!

Today was the release date in Japan and I had a chance to see the lens in a shop. I've posted my impressions in the lens discussion forum.
