According to Amateur Photographer I received this morning, the official price of the K20D is £899.99 body only.

Hmmm I think I will wait a bit

I think they would have got away with it if Samsung hadnt undercut them by so much. I expect body only retail will be around £750-£799 when it hits the shops. It will never be as cheap as the Samsung but they cannot justify the £200 gap and the Pentax dealers will kill them for making them so uncompetitive against Curry's, Jessops and Jacobs (who sell the Samsung).

I think they have already withdrawn the price from the UK website.

I agree, £50 to £100 is more reasonable for the extra Kudos of the Pentax Badge and the couple of extra features you get, (DNG for instance) but £200, that is just wrong for what is in many ways that same camera.

Actually, you get PEF and white balance settings for your screen.

True, but does that really justify a £200 price difference? £100 maybe, but not £200.

I can't find any mention of the K20D at all on PENTAX U.K. Limited (no surprise there).

SRS had £899 on their website initially, but have since replaced it with 'TBC'.

Looks like Pentax have seen the error of their ways, and the original RRP was just a tad too high

Actually I don't think it's even worth £50, since everything is down to firmware.

Firmware can't magic a new sensor. Sorry.

Chris from SRS said this was the Ä to £ translation so it's just a rough guide

Pentax should just flip the script on Samsung and match them to within 50-100 bucks. Thats the only sure fire way to keep the consumer base intact (and rake that dslr revenue that Hoya is eyeballing or its exit stage left for camera making).

File formats and LCD adjustments have nothing to do with sensors. Sorry as well.

I guess working with Samsung's a double-edged sword. Not that Samsung is a bad partner, as they've really been helpful to Pentax R&D, as well as splitting production costs, but Samsung might be able to take less profit margin since they might be under no pressure to show huge margins, unlike Pentax.

I imagine it would be more hurtful to Pentax if Samsung also released their own GX-200 for 200 euros/pounds/dollars less than the K200D. As it is, it's an uphill climb for the K200D.

The sensor for both cameras are the same. Differences are down to the aforementioned LCD adjustment (which the Samsung lacks, apparently), JPEG processing algorithms, PEF RAW format, slightly different body styling, camera UI, and of course, the logo on the pentaprism hump.

Well, that translates as a win for us consumers.
