If it's the D800 sensor but priced $100 less than the D800, it'd better have quite a lot of extra features to entice people to Pentax...

I was expecting a 2,200$ price tag.
I'm not gonna buy it anyway, so...haha

Remember that US pricing is rarely a straight conversion from any other currency.

Tracing that story back to its origins leads one to a Chinese camera enthusiasts website. The original post, which was machine translated for me (I did use 3 translators) indicated that the delay in releasing the Pentax was due to a contractual situation in which exclusive rights to the sensor were granted for 6 months and Pentax had to wait to use the sensor until sometime late September. Which is, coincidentally, just in time for Photokina.......

I hate the 24 MP for $2800 part. With Nikon at $3000 for 36 Mp, how can they think that will even sell? It will only be of interest to Pentax users who already have FF lenses. It won't bring in a single new customer.

I don't currently own a 31 Ltd... but if Pentax brings out an FF I'd certainly aquire one. If I can get a 36 Mp Nikon system with a 31 mm, or rough equivalent lens, for the same price as a 24 Mp Pentax system... why would I go for that? If I've already bought my 31 Ltd and the only factor is the MP, it's not so bad, but, I haven't bought my 31, 43, or 77 yet, I can buy them just as easily for a Nikon as for a Pentax. It would be nicer to be able to use either lens on either system, to the point I could consider that a plus worth paying for...

But I can just as easily envision a scenario where I use my K-5 for telephoto photography and a Nikon system for landscape. Long story short... $200 difference will not see me buy a 24 Mp system over a 36 Mp system... I'd feel ripped off. It might be that the 24 MP Pentax FF system would suit me better. But the whole value for dollars spent thing tends to cloud my judgement.

Every one want's to feel they are getting the best deal.

any pentax pricing needs to be taken with a grain of salt, dont forget the K-5 was $1700 at release. Just wait a few months until the price drops (or the thing exists and is announced at all )

If it's the replacement for the K-5, then I doubt it'll be FF...

Let's look at what the mid-June rumor site actually said:
Previous rumors have the K-3 sporting a 24MP sensor, 29-point SAFOX X/w light wavelength AF sensor, 6fps continuous shooting at highest resolution, 1080p and 720p video recording at 60/30/25 and 24 fps, Dual PRIME M processor and ISO range between 100 and 25,600 (expandable to 50-102,400).

Today we found out that the K-3 will likely be announced at Photokina in September and launch in early 2013 under the tagline: “the world’s most compact full frame.” It’s expected to use Sony’s new 24MP sensor (possibly the same one as the D600), come with a brand new kit lens, battery grip and flash unit, and sell (body only) for around $2,800.

Considering the rumored sensor and the fact that both the Canon and Nikon entry-levels should have significantly lower price tags, we’ll have to wait and see what other features Pentax is planning to bring to the table to lure photographers their way.
Ok, those specs look a lot like the replacement for the K-5 and would be great on an APS-C. But Norm's points about how it measures up to the current FF crop of cameras from the big two make it look a bit anemic if compared to them. So, is this just a rehash and recycle of all the rumors we have already seen so many times or is this a misunderstanding by some Chinese camera enthusiasts about what they had leaked to them from a friend at some factory but it was garbled from APS-C to FF? Only time will tell.
