Is it a Sony sensor in the D3200 or is it an Aptina one (which I think is also the maker for the V1/J1 sensor? Or I'm mistaken on both lol)?

Huh, it looks like you're right, the D3200 is an aptina.

What non-SLT camera is the sony 24MP sensor in?

I'm pretty sure it is a Sony sensor with some input on the fab process from Nikon (allowing them, apparently, to claim that it is their own chip and different from everyone elses sensor).

Where did you find that? On the aptina site there is only a 16mp sensor.

Would Nikon put the best version/uncrippled verison of the 24mp in their lowest end camera? That would prolly kill a lot of sales in higher segments wouldn't it?

Did Aptina make it? Cool.

If Aptina can make a 24mp for Nikon they could cut FF sensors out of that for Pentax. :-)

Ff sensors require more than cutting, they need to be stitched from a couple of pieces, Aptina may not have that tech, or perhaps they are getting it from Nikon since the rumour is the d600 sensor is from aptina not Sony. Given the general superiority of Sony sensors at the moment i hope they use Sony not Aptina (though the aptina 24 in the D3200 ranked pretty well)

I don't know for sure that the D3200 is an Aptina. I'm repeating stuff that got said on the internet, so take it with a grain of salt.

In either case, it looks like the D3200 sensor is very close to the D7000 performance - some aspects a bit better, some aspects a bit worse.

If I had a camera with the Aptina sensor in it, I certainly wouldn't purchase the Sony sensor, all else the same, and vice versa.

However I find it unlikely that pentax's new best-APS-C camera will have the same sensor as the bottom-of-the-line Nikon.

none of them
it's a Nikon sensor, as it is in other Nikon DSLRs

Nikon D3200 CMOS Image Sensor (die marks NC81369R)

The Nikon D3200 DSLR is an entry-level DSLR featuring a 24.2 megapixel DX-format CMOS image sensor. The sensor is capable of 1080p30 video.

Nikon D3200 Sensor Designed by None Other Than Nikon Itself

All the way back at the beginning of 2011, Nikon Rumors confirmed that the image sensors in Nikon’s D3, D3s, D700 and D3100 were all designed by the Japanese company itself. And now, a recent teardown of the D3200 by Chipworks shows that Nikon was behind the sensor found inside that camera as well. There has been speculation for a while that Nikon is distancing themselves from Sony sensors, and if rumors of the full-frame D600 sensor being made by Aptina turn out to be true, then the list of Nikon cameras left sporting Sony-designed sensors will be getting pretty short indeed.

Chipworks don't claim that this is conclusive evidence. Nikon's name on the chip reflects the fact that Nikon makes chip lithography gear and is also the customer for this chip from the fab, but it isn't enough to establish that Nikon did the whole chip design entirely alone. The properties of the chip seem to indicate it has some Sony EXMOR backlit CMOS technology in there.

Right, Nikon is involved in the sensor business and is reported to sale to SONY "steppers" that are the main tool used to build sensors up.
In any case it would be naïve to deduct from a single commercial inscription that the product is not made by a subcontractor...

I thought Nikon just had a hand in the design, does Nikon have fab capacity now to produce their own sensors like Canon does?

It appears no one knows anything for sure.
In theory it does make sense that a camera manufacturer wants something specifically done to a sensor, something improved, or tweaked, or whatever. But to me it seems forum users everywhere are chasing wild geese in utter darkness, on a rainy day, with heads covered with bags, and blindfold ...
