This lens is also the wide angle solution. Theres also a standard zoom lens on the roadmap (can't remeber the focal lenght range now).
Sure, but 28-45 suddenly isn't very impressive if it's for 44x33 only. The standard zoom seems to be about 42-88 - which makes very much sense as "standard" for a 48x36 sensor (or sligthly larger).

Perhaps it won't be imprresive but affordable instead? That makes sense if Pentax plan to compete with FF with the cropped 645 format. Then affordable wide angles are needed.

Incorrect.

Hasselblad 35-90mm f/4-5.6 HCD Aspherical Zoom Lens 30 23590 B&H

Plus there's the; Haasselblad 50-100mm, and some nine zooms made for Mamiya medium format. Mamiya also coming out with three more zooms well within the next year

When did a 35-90 become a 28-45?
A 28-45 is unique in MF. The 33-55 was too at its introducion....

35mm is quite different from 28mm for 645 Full Frame.

It's a 17-27mm, more or less, in 35mm terms, or an 11-17 in APS-C.

Finally i agree with you
I think it would be an ideal zoom for a medium format like the 645D that is designed as a field camera not so much as a studio one. good range for landscapes. Yep it'll be stupid expensive, but in general all medium format lenses have always been stupid expensive regardless of brand with the possible exception of the standard lenses (which benefit from the highest sales volume and the willingness in all likelihood to sell at a lower margin - still they are 2-3 times the price of their 35mm counterparts)

Perhaps a mirrorless 645D-01 will be released at PT.

That's a serious way to lower costs and size of the MF without having to resort to a 135 format. But I doubt many could afford the lenses just the same.

MF isn't that expensive if you're willing to use legacy lenses.

And legacy bodies.
Just a brand new 645D without lenses costs more than my car

Yes but the lenses are where the manufacturer makes most of their ongoing profits. I can't see Pentax (or any other respectable manufacturer) just making the body and leaving the buyer to hunt down old glass to make it work.

Exactly! That's why I still have the Hyundai Elantras I bought new for USD $10,400 (each, of course) in 2002 and 2003. And that, in turn, is the reason I have two K-5 with too much consumer glass. I am confident that my photo gear would sell for more than both cars ....

What happened to that dirt cheap 24mp FF Sony sensor?
Prices seems to increase exponentrially with larger sensors. THe wide angle price is a problem for Pentax. I hope the roadmapped wide angle zoom will adress that.
A 24mp APS Pentax would probably cost less than half of the rumored 24mp Sony FF camera. $2800 is what I would expect a Pentax FF to cost so rumors seem credible to me.
24mp APS-C DSLRs are a dime a dozen and can't be compared to a FF 24mp sensor DSLR.

Please do not! I have worked with industrial designers and engineers, and I would hesitate to let them design a dog house, let alone a camera!
